Minnesota has a chance to complete a three-game sweep of visiting Boston Wednesday afternoon at Target Field. Read this beting preview and find out our selection of MLB picks on this matchup.
Wednesday Betting Odds
In the early betting most shops were listing this game, which matches Minnesota's Phil Hughes against Boston's Rick Porcello, at right around a pick 'em, with MLB odds offering a total of nine runs.
Minnesota has taken the first two games of this series, winning Monday 7-2 and Tuesday 2-1. The Twins scored twice in the first inning Tuesday night, and starter Mike Pelfrey made that stand up, allowing just one run through seven innings of work.
So the Twins have won four in a row, while the Sox have lost five of their last seven.
Minnesota is also now 16-6 at home this season.
Hughes owns two quality starts in a row; twelve days ago he held Tampa to two runs through seven innings, and last Friday he held the White Sox to the same two runs through seven innings. However, in his three starts previous to that he gave up 12 runs through 17 1/3 innings. With a little help from some good run support the Twins have won three of his last four starts.
Last year Hughes faced Boston twice, giving up just three runs through 14 innings, with 14 strikeouts and no walks; both those games played UNDER.
Porcello was on a nice little four-game run, allowing just six runs through 25 2/3 innings, but last time out he got roughed up for seven runs in less than five innings in a 12-5 loss to the Angels. Still, Boston has won five of his last six starts.
Last year, pitching for Detroit, Porcello started four times against Minnesota, allowing 13 earned runs through 23 2/3 innings; his Tigers split those four games.

We give Hughes a short edge in the pitching match-up, and with most other things equaling out, we like Minnesota to complete the sweep today. Also, Twins home games are 13-9 on the OVERS this season, averaging a healthy 9.3 runs per, so we're thinking OVER.
MLB Picks: Minnesota -102 at Heritage and OVER nine runs at WagerWeb
