St. Louis Cardinals vs. Arizona Cardinals
It has been a very steep and nasty fall from grace for St. Louis veteran pitcher Adam Wainwright who has slowly been declining for the last year or so but has really gone downward in a hurry here in April. Wainwright has a 7.25 ERA in 4 starts allowing 18 runs on 29 hits in 22.1 innings of work and more walks (10) than strikeouts (9). He also has a career low 7.3% swinging strike rate this season a clear indicator of his pitches not inducing many swings and misses.

Making matters worse is the quotes that I’ve read from Wainwright talking about his struggles and how extremely frustrated and upset he is that he can’t find an answer to this problems on the mound. When I hear about a starting pitcher with that much negative energy in their mind to go along with the physical struggles, it makes Wainwright a ‘bet against’ pitcher until further notice for me or at least until I see some semblance of him turning things around and that might be difficult to do here facing an Arizona team that has been swinging the bats well in recent games. Patrick Corbin will get the start for the Diamondbacks and he has had an up and down start and is coming off his worst outing of the season against the Pirates allowing 5 runs on 7 hits in 6 innings.

He has a 5.54 ERA in two previous home starts this season. He did pitch well last season against St. Louis but his current form could definitely be better than it has been. I think Arizona can win this game and also put up their share of runs. Arizona on the money line at near even money, their team total to go Over and the game to go Over the total especially with both bullpens being used heavily recently which could lead to runs late are all worth your MLB pick in this matchup.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Tampa Bay Rays
I expected Matt Moore to come out of the gate strong this season and the Rays lefty hasn’t disappointed and has shown signs of finally figuring things out and putting it all together. Moore has allowed a grand total of 10 runs in 25 innings over 4 starts this month including a 2.95 ERA in 3 home starts here at Tropicana Field with 3 walks and 21 strikeouts in those starts and the Rays are a perfect 3-0 in those Matt Moore home starts. I expect his strong run to continue in this game.

Chris Tillman will get the nod for the Orioles in this game and he’s been a pleasant surprise to me. He hasn’t been unhittable by any stretch but Tillman has pitched better in April than he did really at any point of last season. Tillman has seen his walks go down and his strikeouts and swinging strike rate go up in the first month of the season. Tillman allowed just 5 runs in 19.1 innings in three starts at Tropicana Field against Tampa Bay last season and held them to a single run on 4 hits earlier this month against the Rays.

I think this game has a solid chance to stay Under the total of 7.5 and I would also lean toward Tampa Bay as a small home favorite on the MLB odds, where Moore has had a dominant start to the season, to emerge victorious on Wednesday night.
