We have all heard about how those in living in the big Eastern metropolises think the sports world revolves them and that anything west of Pennsylvania is just fly over territory.
While that is debatable, there is no question this article will cover the sportsbook MLB betting odds about three games in the Eastern Time Zone in the National and American Leagues. There will be no mention of teams from Midwest, South or West, just those closest to the Atlantic Ocean and what teams to choose for sports picks.
Washington Off to Sluggish Start
With injuries to Anthony Rendon, Jayson Werth and Denard Span, the Nationals despite their starting pitching are 1-3 to start the season and today (and tomorrow also) are in danger of losing back-to-back series for the first time since May 19-28.
Washington’s offense and been offensive, batting .180 with seven total runs this season. Those studying the betting odds for MLB picks have understood the Nats predicament well and lowered them each day as a favorite and been correct on three occasions.
Thus far today that has not occurred with Washington holding steady at -120 on the money line with Doug Fister facing Cole Hamels. The Philadelphia lefthander has really struggled out of the gate the last two plus seasons and Monday was no different allowing four home runs in an 8-0 defeat to Boston. Hamels is owns a 1-6 record and 5.40 ERA in his last nine April starts.
The Phillies offense has only been marginally better at 2.5 runs per contest, but NL home teams batting .255 or less on the season and under .200 on their last three games, are 35-13 in their next outing.
MLB Pick: Take Philly. at The Greek.
Atlanta is a Hot as the Summer Weather
After years of being a perennial contender, Atlanta has traded away several assets and was thought to be no better than a fourth place club in the NL East in 2015 by most MLB baseball handicappers and other experts. However, April is an odd time of year for baseball and strange happenings are the norm and the Braves have begun 4-0 thanks to terrific pitching and generally better than expected hitting.
They will attempt to improve on their best start since 1994 with ace Julio Teheran, who had a 2.11 ERA in 16 starts last season at Turner Field. Despite how well he pitched, Teheran was only 6-4 (Braves 10-6), as he was supported by two or fewer runs nine times.
Dillon Gee was thought to be on the Mets trading block this spring, but instead pitched his way back into the rotation with a 2.78 ERA in March. This could be a favorable matchup for New York since Gee is 6-4 with 2.79 ERA versus Atlanta and with his team a +110 underdog; the Metropolitans are 18-10 as a road underdog of +100 to +150, with Gee their starter.
MLB Pick: Take Mets at Bovada.
Baltimore Tries to Bounce Back Against Toronto
The Orioles were a very popular pick among baseball bettors of various skill levels yesterday, but they were drubbed 12-5 by the Blue Jays in their home opener. Baltimore will look to even the series yet it becomes complicated.
The Jays Aaron Sanchez will make his first major league start after earning a rotation spot because of Marcus Stroman's season-ending knee injury in spring training. The 22-year old right-hander was called up from the minors on July 22 and posted a 1.09 ERA in 24 appearances while striking out 27 over 33 innings. We will face inconsistent Ubaldo Jimenez of the Orioles, who has many moving parts to his delivery which makes his beatable.
The O’s opened as -120 favorites and were altered to a Pick or even very short underdogs depending on the sportsbook. Two ways to look at this contest, Baltimore is 15-3 after a loss by six or more runs or Jimenez is 3-10 in April home starts (Team’s record)
My preference for this MLB pick is actually the total, because of the unknown factor of both hurlers and the way both teams are swinging the lumber, they should cruise by the total of 8.
MLB Pick: Over 8 at 5Dimes.
