Dodgers snapped a 6-game skid last night before their first of two with Rays, who dropped three of their last four. Let’s analyze the MLB odds and cash a ticket.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Tampa Bay Rays

Los Angeles Dodgers (13-13, -6.6 units)
The Dodgers have tumbled out of first place thanks to their six-game tailspin but put a halt to that ominous streak on Sunday courtesy of another masterful pitching performance by ace Clayton Kershaw. The three-time NL Cy Young Award winner and 2014’s National League MVP was nothing short of dominant in the Dodgers 1-0 victory over the Padres. Not only did Kershaw go the distance, allowing just three hits and no runs, but he singled home the game winning and only run of the game. Just another day at the office for arguably the best in the business.

Los Angeles will embark on a five-game American League road trip beginning tonight as they hand the ball to Scott Kazmir (1-2, 5.76 ERA, 1.40 WHIP). The former Tampa Bay Ray kicked off the 2016 campaign with a stellar effort in his first outing, allowing just one hit over six innings pitched in a 3-0 win over the Padres in San Diego. But Kazmir was dismal in his subsequent three starts, logging a combined total of just 13 innings where he allowed 14 earned runs, all losses, before he rebounded with a solid performance in his last outing against the Marlins on Friday night. Though his seven hit, two run performance was certainly better, the results were unfortunately the same as Big Blue dropped a 2-0 decision to Miami at Dodger Stadium. Kazmir is 1-4 when starting against his former team with an ERA of 5.13 and a WHIP of 1.899. His team's record is 1-4 (-2.8 units) in these starts.

Tampa Bay Rays (11-13, -2.8 units)
After dropping three of their last four the Rays find themselves with an 11-13 record and 3 ½ games back from the first place Baltimore Orioles. Tampa had yesterday off after their 5-1 loss to Toronto on Sunday, disappointing all of those bettors who included the Rays in their MLB picks as a +110 home dog. The Rays’ offense has been virtually non-existent this season with the worst team batting average and runs scored in the major leagues. That being said their 11-13 mark doesn’t look all that bad considering their season long power outage.

Matt Moore (1-2, 3.66ERA, 1.03 WHIP) takes the hill tonight as he looks to rebound from consecutive losses in his last two appearances. Friday night Moore and the Rays were installed by the MLB odds makers as narrow home favorites over Baltimore but Moore’s seven innings of three hit ball was not enough as the Rays fell 3-1 to the AL East leading Orioles. Matt Moore has never faced LA in his career and it will be the first time the Rays have hosted the Dodgers since 2007.

Betting Analysis
These teams have not met at the Trop in a good long time so there is no recent history to review regarding performances against each other. What we do know is that both teams are struggling at the plate. The Dodgers have averaged 1.7 runs over their last seven games while the Rays have averaged just two runs per game over their last six.

Something has to give and you would have to believe it will be the pitching. The Rays have an interleague record of 21-8 going back to 2015 and are 5-2 this season against the Senior Circuit. Matt Moore is a better pitcher than Scott Kazmir and the Dodgers are playing abysmal baseball right now. Kazmir seems to get the yips when he returns as a visitor to his old stomping grounds and we look to the Rays to add a little sunshine to our bankroll tonight.
