Tuesday’s MLB betting has the Arizona Diamondbacks opening a 10-game road trip with a matchup against the Washington Nationals, who are 3-2 in their last five contests.

Arizona sends righty Trevor Cahill (3-8, 3.92 ERA) to the hill, opposing Nationals southpaw Gio Gonzalez (3-3, 3.34 ERA), in today's game. Let's review which club might make a better part of your MLB picks.

D-Backs, Nationals drop duels

Arizona saw a four-win streak end with Sunday’s 4-2 defeat to the Cincinnati Reds, failing to collect as a 134 dog. Kirk Gibson’s club allowed three runs in the first frame, while Diamondbacks mates Wil Nieves and Miguel Montero each logged a late RBI.

Washington split its weekend home set with the Colorado Rockies, while the UNDER went 2-1-1. Sunday’s finale saw the Nationals log a 7-6 defeat, with catcher Jhonatan Solano poking a pinch-hit double for his side’s last two runs.

Gonzalez goes seven in Philly

Gonzalez came away with a fourth straight no-decision in Wednesday’s 6-2 win for Washington over the Philadelphia Phillies. The 27-year-old tossed 11 strikeouts over seven frames, allowing two hits as a 117 road favorite.

Washington rallied to send the duel into extra frames, with outfielder Jayson Werth notching a pair of RBIs in a 2-for-4 night. Werth’s mate Ian Desmond then cracked a grand slam in the top of the 11th inning, lifting the contest’s eight combined runs OVER its MLB odds ‘total’ of 7.5.

Cahill returns after short stint

Cahill’s most recent start took place on the same night’s card, lasting just one frame against the Miami Marlins. The California native suffered a hip injury after being struck with a line drive, while the Diamondbacks went on to notch a 3-1 win as 146 home ‘chalk.’

Cahill split his two starts against Washington last year, allowing five runs over the span’s combined 13 1/3 innings. The most recent duel came in August’s 9-1 defeat for Arizona, with the hurler’s mates held tight at the hands of Nationals starter Steven Strasburg.

Back the UNDER in Washington

Bet365 opened Gonzalez as a 150 home favorite, while first setting the ‘total’ at seven (OVER minus 120). The weather forecast at Nationals Park calls for 85 degrees, with light winds and a 25 percent chance of thunderstorms.

For my sports picks, I am backing the UNDER in this spot, looking for a tight battle to start the series.

Gonzalez has been solid at home, with a 1.10 WHIP and .272 OBP. The two-time All-Star’s last three starts on his hill saw the UNDER cash at 2-1, allowing six earned runs over a combined 18 2/3 IP.

Cahill tossed 10 strikeouts in his last road outing on June 14, holding the San Diego Padres to two runs on five hits (5 2/3 IP). The UNDER is 6-1 in Arizona’s last seven games, while collecting at a 14-6 clip in the team’s last 20 spots facing lefty starters.

The Diamondbacks have managed a subpar .240 BA against southpaws on the road, while Gonzalez has held Arizona’s Aaron Hill and Willie Bloomquist to a combined 2-for-16 career mark. Washington has been held to 3.2 RPG over its last eight matchups, while Cahill gave up just one run over 7 1/3 frames in last year’s trip to the nation’s capital.

Look for both starters to hold serve here, adding another cashed ticket to the UNDER’s 5-1-1 mark over the last seven meetings between these foes in Washington.

MLB Pick: UNDER 7 +110 at Bet365
