Monday’s MLB betting has the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks opening a three-game set at Dodger Stadium, with both clubs on opposite ends of the National League West standings.

Los Angeles’ Clayton Kershaw (5-4, 1.93) is slated to oppose Arizona’s Wade Miley (4-5, 4.92 ERA) in a matchup of left-handed starters, with odds makers expecting a low-scoring duel. Let's evaluate the betting odds and whip up our MLB pick.

Kershaw, Miley meet in rematch

Arizona came away with a three-game road sweep of the Dodgers in last month’s most recent action between the rivals, cashing as underdogs each time out. The finale saw Miley get the money against Kershaw, with the Diamondbacks logging a 3-2 victory.

Los Angeles has gone 4-3 in the first seven games of its present homestand, despite being outscored by a combined margin of 25-22. Arizona enters the series with a 5-4 mark in its last nine contests, including 4-2 over the span’s six road games.

Kershaw outdueled at home

Kershaw picked up a second loss in three starts with Wednesday’s 6-2 setback for Los Angeles as a 219 home favorite against the San Diego Padres. The two-time All-Star allowed two earned runs over six frames, while tossing nine strikeouts.

Dodgers mates Scott Van Slyke and Adrian Gonzalez drove in one run each, uniting to bat 2-for-7. Los Angeles was edged in hits, 12-5, with leadoff man Yasel Puig held to a 0-for-4 night.

Miley ends slide in St. Louis

Miley notched his first win in five outings on the same evening’s card, with Arizona handing the St. Louis Cardinals a 10-3 defeat. The 26-year-old gave up all three of the Cardinals’ runs, lasting 6 2/3 frames en route to cashing as a 126 road dog.

Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt cracked a grand slam, while mate Martin Prado poked a pair of doubles in a 2-for-4 night. The contest’s combined 13 runs soared above the MLB odds ‘total’ of 8 ½, moving the OVER to 5-4 in Miley’s last nine starts.

Back Arizona as a road dog opened Kershaw as 190 home ‘chalk,’ while first listing the ‘total’ at 6 ½ (UNDER minus 115). Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez (.350 BA) is listed as “questionable” due to a hamstring injury that kept him out of Sunday’s action.

I am taking the plus price with Miley and Arizona here, looking for an upset to open the series. The Diamondbacks have cashed at 4-1 in their last five spots that followed a stretch of two losses, while going 7-2 in their most recent nine road games against clubs with losing records.

Miley has held his own in three road starts against National League West rivals, giving up just eight runs over the span’s 19 1/3 innings. Wednesday’s win in St. Louis also saw him settling down after being shelled for 14 runs over his prior two starts (10 2/3 IP).

Kershaw has had stingy numbers at home, but Los Angeles has gone 0-5 in his last five outings against Arizona. May’s sweep moved the Diamondbacks to a 9-2 mark in its last 11 meetings with the Dodgers, while Arizona’s Gerardo Parra has two doubles in a 5-for-16 career mark facing Kershaw.

Parra also enters the series with a five-game hitting streak, batting 7-for-14 in his last four contests. The Venezuela native’s club is 4-1 in its last five road games against listed lefties, while cashing at 8-2 in its last 10 spots against starters having less than a 1.15 WHIP.
