Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers Game 3
By: Ron Patrick
The LA bats broke loose a bit Saturday night, scoring three runs in the fourth inning and five runs in the fifth, helping the Dodgers overcome an early 4-0 deficit on their way to an 8-6 victory. LA won as -180 favorites on the betting line, and hung on for the cover on the run line.
Sunday's Betting Line
As of Sunday morning LA and Josh Beckett were favored by around -145 over Arizona and Josh Collmenter, with a total of 7.5 runs. The Dodgers could also be gotten at around +145 on the run line for Sunday's game.
Sunday's Pitching Match-Up
Becket (0-0, 4.00) will be making his third start of this season. First, he gave up four ER in four innings against Detroit; then he threw five scoreless innings against San Francisco. On the season he's allowed seven hits but walked six in nine innings. The Dodgers have lost both his starts.
Last year Beckett started twice against the D'Backs, allowing four runs and 15 hits in 14 1/3 innings; but LA lost both those games.
Collmenter (0-1, 3.75) will be making his second start of this season, to go along with four appearances in relief. In his first start last Monday against the Mets he gave up three runs and five hits in four innings of a 7-3 Arizona loss. For the season Collmenter has allowed five runs and 12 hits in 12 innings, with five walks and eight strikeouts.
This will be Collmenter's first start against Los Angeles since July of 2012, when he gave up one run in six innings of a 5-3 Diamondbacks victory.
Sunday's Free Pick
LA finally got its bats going Saturday, with nine hits and a big three-run homer from Andre Ethier. Hopefully they'll keep it going Sunday, because we're going with the Dodgers on the run line for our free MLB pick.
Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers Game 2
By: Ron Patrick
Arizona took Game 1 of this series Friday night 4-2 in 12 innings, snapping a six-game losing streak. The Diamondbacks got a quality start from Wade Miley, and while Addison Reed blew the save in the bottom of the ninth, Aaron Hill bailed 'em out with a two-run single in the top of the 12th for the victory.
Los Angeles has lost three of its last four games, scoring a total of seven runs in the process.
LA will try to even this series up when the teams meet again Saturday evening (8:10 pm ET).
In the early betting most shops were chalking LA and Dan Haren at around -190 over Arizona and rookie Mike Bolsinger, with a total of 7.5 runs. The Dodgers could also be gotten at around +110 giving the run and a half on the run line.
Saturday's Pitching Match-Up
Former Diamondback Haren (2-0, 2.04) is off to a nice start for his new team. He's two-for-three on quality starts so far this season, allowing four ER and 16 hits through 17 2/3 innings, walking two while whiffing 15.
The Dodgers have won all three of Haren's starts, with the totals going 1-2.
Haren just started against Arizona last Sunday in Phoenix, giving up three runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings of an 8-6 LA victory. Also, in his one start last year against the D'Backs, pitching for Washington, Haren threw seven innings of four-hit, shut-out ball.
Young righty Bolsinger, most recently a 15th-round pick in the 2010 draft, went 11-7 with a 4.06 ERA in the minors last year, then 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA at Triple-A Reno this spring. He then made his ML debut Monday against the Mets, allowing two runs and six hits in three innings of relief work.
Free Pick for
LA lost Friday night, but we expect a reversal Saturday. Hopefully, the Blue Crew's bats will break loose. However, that price seems a bit too much to give on Haren. So instead, we'll take a chance and go with the Dodgers on the run line for our free MLB pick on Saturday's game.

The Betting Lines
As of Friday morning most shops were listing LA and Zack Greinke at around -195 over Arizona and Wade Miley, with a total of seven runs.
The Dodgers could also be gotten at around +120 giving the run and a half on the run line.
And The Greek was chalking Los Angeles at -240 to win this series, with the D'Backs getting +200.
Arizona has lost six games in a row, and just got swept three games at home by the Mets, getting outscored 21-5. At the moment it looks like the D'Backs might make a run at the worst record in the league this season.
On the homey side of this match-up LA just dropped two of three games in San Francisco, scoring a total of five runs in the series. The Dodgers avoided the sweep with a 2-1 victory Thursday.
So at 10-6 LA is tied for first place in the NL West with the Giants, while Arizona, at 4-14, sits in last place, seven games off the pace.
The Dodgers took three games in Phoenix last weekend by scores of 6-0, 8-5 and 8-6. They were helped along in that effort by Adrian Gonzalez, who homered in each of those three games.
Friday's Pitching Match-Up
Tonight's game is a rematch of last Saturday's contest, an 8-5 Dodgers victory. Greinke left that game with a 6-1 lead, before Arizona tacked on three meaningless runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Greinke (3-0, 2.76) is only one-for-three on quality starts this year, but that's because he's been pulled twice before pitching six innings. Last time out, last Saturday against these D'Backs, Greinke allowed one run and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings, walking none while whiffing eight. So on the season the former Cy Young Award winner has allowed five ER and 18 baserunners (hits + walks) in 16 1/3 innings.
LA has won all three of his starts this season, and is 25-6 for him since he joined the team back in 2012, including 4-0 against Arizona.
Miley (2-2, 5.04) is one-for-four on quality starts this season. Last time out, last Saturday against these Dodgers, the left-handed got nicked for five runs and eight hits in five innings. On the season Miley has permitted 14 ER and 32 baserunners in 25 innings.
Arizona is 2-2 in Miley's starts this season, with the totals also going 2-2.
Miley has already started twice against Los Angeles this season, taking two losses, giving up eight ER in 10 innings.
With the Sticks
Arizona ranks 22nd in team OPS at .684 and 24th in scoring at 3.7 runs per game.
LA ranks ninth in OPS at .731, 13th in scoring at 4.2 RPG and first in stolen bases with 20.
Arizona has leaned toward the OVERS this season by a 12-5 margin, mainly because its pitching staff ranks dead last in the Majors with a 6.02 ERA.
Dodgers SS Hanley Ramirez missed Thursday's game after getting hit by a pitch on the hand Wednesday, but he is expected to play Friday.
Free Pick for Friday
The Dodgers are the obvious choice in this spot, with Greinke going against a team that's lost six games in a row. But that price is a bit steep. So we'll gamble and go with LA on the run line, getting +121 at Pinnacle, for our free MLB pick for Friday.
We'll update this page as this series plays out, with fresh pitching match-up and more free picks, for what they're worth.
