Monday’s MLB betting has the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals opening a four-game set at Busch Stadium.

This is following last month’s pair of close contests between the rivals. Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller (7-4, 2.21 ERA) is slated to face Cubs southpaw Travis Wood (5-5, 2.65 ERA), with Miller listed as hefty ‘chalk.’

Cubs, Cardinals split at Wrigley

May’s action saw Chicago begin the set with a 2-1 victory over the Cardinals, cashing as a 121 home dog. Wood stood in for 6 2/3 innings, tossing eight strikeouts en route to allowing six hits.

St. Louis answered back the following day, staging a three-run rally for a 5-4 triumph. Cardinals mates Matt Carpenter and Carlos Beltran united to hit 5-for-8, with their club collecting as 114 road ‘chalk.’

Miller goes six in defeat

Miller saw a string of two wins end with Wednesday’s 5-1 loss for St. Louis to the New York Mets failing to collect as a 183 road favorite. The second-year hurler gave up four runs on five hits, allowing two homers over six innings.

Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig drove in his side’s sole run with a solo shot, while catcher Yadier Molina drilled a pair of doubles in a 3-for-4 night. St. Louis’ David Freese and Matt Holliday were held to a combined 0-for-8, leaving five men on base.

Wood outdueled at home

Wood picked up a second straight loss on the same day of action, lasting seven frames in a 2-1 defeat for Chicago to the Cincinnati Reds. The Arkansas native held the Reds to four hits, falling short of cashing as a 108 home dog.

Cubs outfielder Nate Schierholtz got his club out to a 1-0 lead with a homer in the second inning, while finishing 1-for-3. Chicago’s David DeJesus and Anthony Rizzo both went 0-for-4, while the contest’s three runs moved the UNDER to 7-1-1 in Wood’s last nine outings.

Back the OVER at Busch

Bet365 opened Miller as a 200 home favorite, while first setting the ‘total’ at 7 ½ (OVER minus 115). The weather forecast in St. Louis calls for an 80 degree night, with a 65 percent chance of rain.

I am backing the OVER for our sports picks in this matchup, looking for both sides to have their chances for runs.

The OVER cashed at 5-3 in last year’s eight meetings at Busch Stadium between these foes, with Wood giving up seven runs over six frames in July’s most recent outing. St. Louis’ Matt Carpenter and Allen Craig have cracked three homers in a 7-for-19 career mark against Wood, while Daniel Descalso is 3-for-7 lifetime and comes in hitting 5-for-8 over his last two games.

Miller has not had a lot of history against Chicago, but could be vulnerable to at least a few of the Cubs’ bats. Chicago’s Wellington Castillo poked a hit in his sole trip facing Miller, while logging a 2-for-4 outing in Saturday’s 5-2 victory for his club over the New York Mets.

Chicago has notched 5.3 RPG over its last seven road contests, with the OVER collecting at 3-2-2. St. Louis returns home after logging 5.9 RPG during its nine-game road trip, while the OVER cashed at 5-2 in its seven dates prior to the journey at Busch Stadium.

For your MLB picks, look for the OVER to get the money again here, adding to the wager’s 5-0 mark in St. Louis’ last five matchups against left-handed starters.
