The Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals are two of the more storied franchises in all of baseball. The Fall Classic returns to Fenway as the teams prepare to open up a best-of-seven series Wednesday night.

Let’s take a closer look at the MLB betting odds for Game 1 of the 2013 World Series at Fenway Park, with the first pitch scheduled for 8:07 p.m. ET on FOX.

NL champions

St. Louis advanced to this stage by eliminating the Pittsburgh Pirates and Los Angeles Dodgers, as the franchise aims to capture its third title in eight years.

The Cardinals are expected to start first baseman Allen Craig at designated hitter in the opening game of this series, but he hasn’t been seen on the diamond since suffering a left foot injury on September 4th.

Sports betting handicappers will find that the Cardinals are 2-11 in their last 13 games as a road underdog of +110 to +150.

AL champions

Boston reaches the Fall Classic by moving past the Tampa Bay Rays and Detroit Tigers, as the AL East champions try to secure its third title in a 10-year span.

The Red Sox are hoping their relief pitchers can carry over the dominance they displayed in the ALCS—compiling a 0.42 ERA in eliminating the Tigers in six games.

The franchise has won its last eight games in World Series play.

Wainwright

Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright has put together a 1.57 ERA in three starts during the 2013 MLB playoffs, but he did suffer a 3-0 road defeat to the Los Angeles Dodgers on October 14th, as he allowed two runs and six hits over seven frames.

St. Louis has dropped four of Wainwright’s last five starts with eight or more days of rest.

Lester

Red Sox starting pitcher Jon Lester has alternated wins and losses over his three postseason starts this year, which includes a 4-3 road victory over the Detroit Tigers on October 17th, as he surrendered two runs and seven hits over 5.1 innings of work.

Boston has won 12 of Lester’s last 15 starts as a home favorite, while the ‘Under’ is 4-1 in his last five efforts at this venue against teams with a winning record.

Prediction

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Boston Red Sox in their MLB picks, as they’ve won 38 of their last 53 home games.
