Thursday’s MLB betting has the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Francisco Giants opening a four-game set, with both clubs sending righties to the hill.
Giants, D-backs win finales
San Francisco ended a nine-game road trip with Wednesday’s 13-5 victory over the San Diego Padres, cashing at plus 100 MLB odds. Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval cracked three of his side’s six homers, with he and his mates finishing with 17 hits.
Arizona finished its homestand with a 4-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays, prevailing in 10 frames as part of the same afternoon’s card. Diamondbacks shortstop Willie Bloomquist poked a walkoff single as part of a 3-for-5 day, driving in pinch-runner Adam Eaton.
Cahill, Vogelsong meet in rematch
Cahill and Vogelsong squared off in this past weekend’s series between these National League West rivals, with Arizona pulling out a 4-3 win as 138 home ‘chalk.’ Diamondbacks third baseman Eric Chavez drove in the winning run, handing Giants reliever Sandy Rosario his staff’s loss in the ninth frame.
Arizona jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning, with Vogelsong giving up the trio of runs as part of his six frames on the hill. Diamondbacks mates Miguel Montero and Gerardo Parra logged one RBI each, uniting to hit 3-for-7.
Cahill stood in for 6 1/3 innings, allowing a homer to San Francisco’s Gregor Blanco as part of nine hits. San Francisco tied the affair thanks to a trio of runs in the top of the seventh inning, capped off by an RBI-single from catcher Buster Posey.
The contest’s combined seven runs dipped UNDER the ‘total’ of 8 ½, while Arizona edged out the Giants in hits, 12-11. Diamondbacks reliever Brad Ziegler notched his staff’s win, retiring three straight batters in the ninth inning.
Back the Giants as home ‘chalk’
William Hill opened Vogelsong as a 115 home favorite, while first setting the ‘total’ at seven (OVER minus 120). San Francisco’s Buster Posey is listed as “questionable,” recovering from a hand injury.
I am adding Vogelsong and the Giants to Thursday’s sports picks, looking for Bruce Bochy’s squad to open this set with a victory.
Vogelsong has gone without a losing decision in his five starts since returning to action last month from the disabled list. The 36-year-old has held foes to four earned runs over the span’s three home outings (21 IP), with the Giants cashing at 2-1.
Cahill has had his share of inconsistency on the road, giving up a sizable 1.47 WHIP and .342 OBP. Arizona has logged a 2-6 mark in the California native’s last eight outings away from home, while the Diamondbacks are 1-5 in their last six spots that followed a victory.
San Francisco’s Gregor Blanco enters with a five-game hitting streak, while cracking four doubles and a homer in 16 at-bat’s against Cahill’s arm. Blanco’s mate Angel Pagan poked a double and triple in Wednesday’s outing against San Diego, while hitting a stellar 7-for-15 lifetime facing Cahill.
Look for the Giants to collect as short faves here, adding another cashed ticket to the team’s 8-3 mark in Vogelsong’s last 11 starts against clubs with winning records.
