The Blue Jays are gunning for a sweep of their four-game set with the Yankees and will resume their quest for an AL wild card spot tonight. Let’s review the MLB odds for this AL East tilt in Toronto and cash a ticket.

Tuesday night was the last time I dipped my toes into the murky waters of the MLB season slate of games. Unfortunately, the MLB oddsmakers tempted me with what I perceived to be a lower than expected line on the Baltimore Orioles as they faced off against their divisional rivals the Boston Red Sox. As you know, the Sox have been sizzling lately and my MLB pick for Tuesday night was another casualty of their assault on the AL East crown. I dropped 1.31 units for that poor decision and will go back to the drawing board tonight as two AL East rivals lock horns in Toronto.

New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays Prediction & Betting Analysis
The Yankees are doing a fast fade for postseason contention after putting together a surprising run since the break. New York dealt flame-thrower Aroldis Chapman, veteran slugger Carlos Beltran and a host of other key components near the trade deadline and looked as though they were content to restock their farm club and wait ‘til next year. But after inching closer to the top of the AL East they have dropped eight of their last 10, including their last three to Toronto, and are now playing the role of spoiler.

N.Y. Yankees
Tonight against the Blue Jays the Bombers will trot out 22-year-old righty Luis Severino (3-8, 5.70, 1.40) who has been used as both a starter and reliever this season for New York. He has been a far more effective reliever than a starter and his last start came on August 14th when he was drilled by the Rays for seven runs on eight hits in three-plus innings resulting in a 12-3 defeat. As a starter he is 0-8 with an 8.58 ERA over eight starts but has been sublime over his last eight games in relief, allowing just one run over those combined 15 innings of work.

Toronto Blue Jays
The Jays counter with J.A. Happ (20-4, 3.28, 1.17) who has been one of the best in the business this season. The 33-year-old has stymied the Yankees this season with a 3-0 team record and a 2.39 ERA. I’m not sure how I can look at this any other way than favorably for the Blue Jays. Toronto is 7-1 (+5.9 units) over the Yankees this season in games played at the Rogers Centre. Perhaps the only cause for pause has been Severino’s outstanding relief performances but there are relievers and starters for a reason. Severino is clearly the former and not the latter.
