One way or another, a team is going to get above .500 tonight in San Francisco where the Giants are hosting the Blue Jays, and we have a free MLB pick for the interleague affair.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. San Francisco Giants
A year ago, the Toronto Blue Jays struggled on the road while the San Francisco Giants were tough to beat at home. It's a different story so far this season for both clubs, the Blue Jays above .500 on the road while the Giants are barely .500 at home, and that change was exactly how their series opener in San Francisco played out on Monday.

Aaron Sanchez delivered seven strong innings on the mound for Toronto and Edwin Encarnacion's 2-run jack in the third inning proved to be the difference maker in Toronto's 3-1 victory. The Blue Jays, who were bet up to -135 chalk on the MLB odds after the game opened nearly a pick, climbed back to .500 on the season at 17-17 with the win, the loss dropping the Giants to 17-17 which is still good enough to share the lead in the NL West.

The interleague series continues Tuesday evening (10:15 PM ET), and once again the early action has been on the Jays in a battle between a pair of hurlers with opposite records. JA Happ is 4-0 on the season and will carry a -130 moneyline at Pinnacle into the contest. Matt Cain and his 0-4 record take the mound for the Giants, 8 the total for scoreboard bettors and shaded to the 'over.'

Giants On 5-Game Skid With Cain On Mound
The Blue Jays are spending most of the next 2+ weeks on the road, traveling to Texas to take on the Rangers after this set in San Fran. They'll then go home for a quick 3-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays before heading back out on the highway to face the Minnesota Twins and New York Yankees.

Each of Happ's six assignments this season have gone into the quality start column, the southpaw allowing no more than three runs in any outing. Toronto lost two of his three road starts, both to the Rays at Tropicana Field though Happ pitched well enough to win both times. He faced the Giants once last year while he was still with the Pirates, dropping a 6-2 decision in San Francisco where he worked six frames and allowed three runs. Happ has lost all four of his career starts vs. the G-Men, three of those coming on this diamond where he owns a 7.04 ERA (15.1 IP).

San Francisco is killing off a weeklong homestand with this series. The Giants make a couple of stops in the NL West at Arizona and San Diego before coming home to host the red-hot Chicago Cubs.

Cain has but one quality starts among his six trips to the bump, and that was April 8 when he made his season debut vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers. Since then, the Giants have dropped all five of his assignments while the righthander pitched to a 7.56 ERA in that stretch. He's proving to be no mystery to opposing batters who are hitting at a .341 clip, and Cain has served up five homers in his last three starts (15.2 IP). He missed facing the Blue Jays when the clubs collided three seasons ago, and Tuesday's tilt will be just his second career start against them, the first taking place in Toronto in 2010 when Cain dropped a 3-0 decision while pitching into the eighth.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick
Crew chief and 26-year veteran umpire Tom Hallion will have the plate for Game 2, his first six assignments running 3-2-1 O/U/P on the baseball odds. He worked a Blue Jays-Rays game in Tampa about nine days ago which finished 'under,' and his last appearance at AT&T Park also fell short of the total, that game taking place in the 2014 NLDS between the Giants and Nationals.

The only part of the weather forecast we're interested in is the wind, currently projected out of the west in the 10-15 mph range at first pitch (out to center). Monday's result was the third consecutive 'under' between the clubs, but I'm going contrary to that trend with my free MLB pick and play the high side of the total.
