The Athletics currently rank 27th in the majors with 37 runs scored, 26th with a .216 batting average and 16th with 12 home runs. Oakland is 5th in MLB with a 2.90 ERA and 8th with a 1.20 WHIP.

New York Yankees
The New York Yankees snapped a four-game losing streak with last Sunday's 4-3 win against the Mariners and they hope to keep that momentum ahead of this series with the A's.

The Yankees are currently 16th in the majors with 49 runs scored, 14th with a .249 batting average and 9th with 14 home runs. New York is 20th in MLB with a 4.22 ERA and 12th with a 1.26 WHIP.

Pitching Matchup
Kendall Graveman (0-1, 2.38 ERA) vs. Nathan Eovaldi (0-1, 6.94 ERA)
Kendall Graveman has pitched well in two starts this season, allowing just three earned runs over 11.1 innings but he hasn't received much run support. Graveman went 6-9 with a 4.05 ERA in 21 starts last season and he gave up three runs in 5.2 innings and got a no-decision in one start against the Yankees last year.

Nathan Eovaldi has struggled this season, giving up five runs in five innings against the Astros in his first start and four runs in 6.2 innings against the Blue Jays last time out. He has a strikeout-to-walk ratio (K/BB) of 7.5 (15 strikeouts and two walks), so if he can avoid giving up home runs (four home runs allowed so far) he will be as reliable as he was last season, when he went 14-3 with a 4.20 ERA in 27 starts. He was 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA in two starts against the Athletics last season.

Betting Trends
The Athletics are 3-0 in road games as of this writing, while the Yankees are just 3-3 at home.

The total has gone 'Under' in four of Oakland's last five games and in four of New York's last five games.

Final Analysis
The New York Yankees are favored on the MLB odds board at -150 while the Oakland Athletics are at +138 and the total has been set at 8.5. Graveman and Eovaldi are two young pitchers with plenty of potential. Graveman has been impressive in his two starts this season and his record doesn't reflect how well he has pitched while Eovaldi proved what he is capable of last season and it's only a matter of time before he can keep the ball in the park more often.

The betting trends support a lean on the 'Under' and even the series opener has been a low-scoring game (right now it's 2-2 at the top of the 10th inning). I'm taking 'Under' 8.5 with one of my MLB picks.
