Morning MLB Odds Report
For the most part, the lines are pretty even throughout, but as always there are a couple of huge favorites on the board. Those would be the New York Yankees (-250) playing host to Houston and Detroit (-235) at home to Minnesota.
We've got some outstanding pitching talent on display today, with Matt Harvey, Adam Wainwright, Mat Latos, and Andy Pettitte among others set to throw. Let's go over the odds to help determine our daily MLB picks.
Washington and Atlanta will meet up for a three-game set for the second time this season. The first time around didn't go so well for the Nationals, who were swept despite being at home.
The Braves will be the hosts here and will send out young Julio Teheran against ace Stephen Strasburg. Both teams have been struggling since a hot start, with Washington at 4-6 over their last 10 and Atlanta even worse at 3-7. That being said, they remain the top two teams in the NL East as of now.
Which way will Willie Bee go tonight for game one of the series? The Nationals are a -130 favorite thanks to Strasburg, but Atlanta's bats are just waiting to explode again.
Another great series here, as the Cardinals open up proceedings as -130 favorites against Mat Latos and the Reds.
You've got to love this pitching matchup. Latos is 1-0 with a 2.16 ERA and has 33 strikeouts against only five walks, while Adam Wainwright is 4-1 with a 1.93 ERA and 0.99 WHIP. Amazingly enough, he's been even better at 37 total strikeouts and one walked batter.
Willie will be breaking down this series as well. Considering Cincinnati has gone just 2-8 on the road so far this season, it'll be interesting to see what side he likes for tonight's matchup, especially with two red-hot pitchers duking it out.
The Diamondbacks currently sit atop the NL West and will try to keep it that way when they begin a series with the Giants tonight.
For game one, Ian Kennedy will go up against Matt Cain. Normally that would translate into a chalky line for San Francisco, but Cain's struggles mean it's Arizona that are the favorites here tonight. They're at -110 to win, with the Giants at +100.
One would have to think it's only a matter of time before Cain rights the ship, but his 0-2 record and 6.59 ERA surely will scare people off. San Francisco comes in having lost five straight games – will Ron Patrick predict that streak running to six after tonight?
Rockies/Dodgers & Astros/Yankees
Ted Lilly had a successful season debut for the Dodgers and will try to get his first win tonight at home against Colorado. Current MLB odds have L.A. at -145 to get the win.
The Rockies have cooled off a little bit here lately, losing two straight and going 4-6 over their last 10. The Dodgers haven't exactly been killing it though, so this is certainly a wide open series. What will Ron Patrick decide for tonight's opener?
As for the Yankees, they have a massive favorite tag (-245), with Andy Pettitte getting the call to start. He'll go up against Lucas Harrell, who's 2-2 with a 4.08 ERA.
There could be some value on the total (8) here. Harrell is a talented young pitcher and may be able to keep New York's makeshift lineup at bay, while you know Pettitte is going to take care of business. Check back later to see what Joe Freda thinks of this matchup.
We'll also have a picks of the day article available from Joe Catalano for tonight's action. Come see us later on today!
