CC Sabathia has enjoyed success in his career with umpire Angel Hernandez behind home plate, which could lead to a victory for the New York Yankees over the Kansas City Royals Tuesday night.

Let’s take a closer look at the MLB betting odds for this American League matchup at Yankee Stadium, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.

Alternating pattern

Kansas City has alternated wins and losses over its last five games, as it picked up a 5-1 victory over New York as +136 road underdogs Monday, while going UNDER the betting total of 9.

The Royals are 8-15 versus left-handed starters this season, with the UNDER going 14-8-1 in that situation.

Unable to produce at the plate

New York has dropped back-to-back games, with the offense plating just a single run in each of those contests. The club is a dismal 1-27 when pushing across two or fewer runs during the 2013 campaign.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the Yankees are 37-28 as home favorites of -125 to -150, with no edge in terms of the betting total (31-31-3 Over/Under).

Royals starting pitcher James Shields (3-6, 3.23 ERA) has led the club to seven consecutive victories, but he didn’t earn a decision in a 10-7 home win over the Cleveland Indians last time out, as he allowed five runs and nine hits over 5.1 innings.

The right-hander is 2-3 with a 2.69 ERA in nine road games, issuing 12 walks and striking out 57 batters in 60.1 combined frames.

In 27 career starts versus the Yankees, Shields has tallied a disappointing 7-15 record and 4.46 ERA, including a 3-2 setback at home on May 11.

Yankees starting pitcher CC Sabathia (9-6, 4.06 ERA) is coming off a 3-2 road win over the Minnesota Twins, as he surrendered just two runs and seven hits over seven innings of work.

The left-hander is 6-2 with a 3.48 ERA in nine home starts, with opposing hitters batting .269 against him.

In 35 career games versus the Royals, Sabathia has compiled an 18-10 record and 3.26 ERA, including a 4-0 mark and 2.35 ERA in four efforts as a member of the Bronx Bombers.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Yankees as one of their MLB picks Tuesday, as they’ve won 21 of Sabathia’s last 26 starts versus AL Central opponents.

The left-hander is also a perfect 2-0 with a 0.60 ERA in two career outings with umpire Angel Hernandez behind home plate.
