Our MLB handicapper provides us with a betting preview article for Monday’s game between the White Sox and A’s. Go inside to find out which team has the betting edge before making your MLB picks.

Chicago White Sox (Sale) vs. Oakland A’s (Gray)
The White Sox and A’s tangle on Monday evening in what will be the season opener for both teams. The first pitch at the Oakland Coliseum is slated for 10:05 PM ET. According to current MLB Odds, the White Sox are a -125 money line favorite, and the posted total is 6.5. These American League rivals met seven times a season ago, the White Sox were 5-2 during those encounters, and that includes winning all three games played in Oakland. Five of those seven games went over the total.

Both Teams look to Rebound from Dismal 2015 Campaigns
The Chicago White Sox were picked by many to be a serious contender in the AL Central race a season ago, and they fell well short of doing so in that regard. The White Sox finished fourth in the five team division standings with a disappointing record of 76-86.

Based on last season’s record, the Oakland A’s certainly didn’t set the bar very high in terms of improvement for 2016. Oakland finished dead last in the five team American League West standings with a terrible 68-94 record.

Starting Pitchers
Chris Sale will make his third career opening day start for the White Sox. Sale went 13-11 in 31 starts a season ago with a 3.41 ERA and stellar 1.09 WHIP. Sale is a premier power pitcher despite the southpaw’s slender frame. Last season alone, Sale struck out 274 batters in 208 2/3 innings pitched.  That equates to an outstanding 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings. Sale has made two career starts at Oakland, and compiled an excellent 1.93 ERA and 0.82 WHIP during those outings.

Sonny Gray will make the opening day start for Oakland, and it marks the third consecutive year he’s done so. Gray was one of Oakland’s few bright spots in 2015. He went 14-7 in 31 starts, posting a terrific 2.73 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. However, he made one start versus the White Sox a season ago, and it was certainly a forgetful one. Gray lasted just 3.0 innings during that outing, allowed 7 earned runs, 8 hits, 2 home runs, and walked 4. On a positive note, Gray has been superb in April over the past two seasons, going 7-1 during ten starts while compiling a sparkling 2.02 ERA and 0.98 WHIP.

Final Take and Pick
Chris Sale should be able to overpower what I consider to be a very weak hitting Oakland team. The White Sox batting order can potentially be very potent this season if they don’t underachieve. I’m going with the money line road favorite for one of my Monday MLB Picks.
