The Detroit Tigers are the top hitting team in baseball when playing at home, as they prepare to open up a five-game series against the Kansas City Royals Thursday.

Let’s take a closer look at the MLB betting odds for this American League Central matchup at Comerica Park, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:08 p.m. ET.

Check out our Thursday Morning MLB Odds & Betting Lines Report.

Coming back down to Earth

Kansas City is 17-5 in its last 22 games, but it dropped its final two contests against the Miami Marlins, including a 5-2 setback as -235 home favorites Wednesday.

The Royals are 7-19 as road underdogs of +175 to +200 the last two-plus seasons, including a 0-2 mark during the 2013 campaign.

Returning home

Detroit went 6-4 on its recently completed 10-game homestand—closing it out with a 6-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox as -165 favorites yesterday.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the Tigers are 36-8 as home favorites of -175 to -200, including a 13-2 mark in 15 opportunities this season.

Royals starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie (12-8, 4.10 ERA) had his personal four-game winning streak snapped last time out, as he suffered a 5-3 home defeat to the Boston Red Sox, allowing five runs and 10 hits over six frames.

The right-hander is 4-5 with a 4.14 ERA in 12 road appearances, surrendering 16 home runs in 76 combined innings.

In 16 lifetime games (13 starts) versus the Tigers, Guthrie has compiled a 7-3 record and 4.06 ERA, including a 1-2 mark and 4.02 ERA in six appearances at this ballpark.

Tigers starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez (10-7, 2.58 ERA) has led the club to four straight wins, including a 9-3 road victory over the New York Yankees last time out, as he gave up two runs and four hits over seven strong innings.

The right-hander is 6-2 with a 2.08 ERA in eight home appearances, with opposing hitters batting .187 against him.

In three games versus the Royals, Sanchez has come away with a 1-2 record and 0.82 ERA, including a 1-0 road loss on July 19.

I’m going to recommend that readers play the total with their MLB picks in this affair, as the OVER is 4-0 in the last four meetings in the Motor City.
