Kansas City Royals left-hander Bruce Chen has been brilliant since returning to the starting rotation, as he prepares to take on the Miami Marlins Tuesday.

Let’s take a closer look at the MLB betting odds for this interleague matchup at Kauffman Stadium, with the first pitch scheduled for 8:10 p.m. ET.

Check out our Tuesday Morning MLB Odds & Betting Lines Report.

Falling flat

Miami is 1-6 on its current nine-game road trip, as it suffered a 6-2 setback to Kansas City as +196 underdogs Monday, while pushing up against the betting total of 8.

The Marlins are 4-11 versus American League opponents this season, with the UNDER going 8-4-3 in that situation.

Red hot

Kansas City has moved into second place in the American League Central standings, as it has won 19 of 24 games since the All-Star break.

The Royals are 10-6 as home favorites of -125 to -150 during the 2013 MLB campaign, with the UNDER going 8-7-1 in that situation.

Marlins starting pitcher Jose Fernandez (8-5, 2.58 ERA) didn’t factor into the decision of a 5-4 road defeat to the Pittsburgh Pirates last time out, as he allowed two runs and five hits over five frames.

The right-hander is 3-5 with a 3.94 ERA in 11 road appearances, issuing 27 walks and striking out 65 batters in 61.2 combined innings.

Fernandez leads MLB with a 1.79 ERA since June 1.

Royals starting pitcher Bruce Chen (5-0, 1.79 ERA) has led the club to four consecutive victories, while he’s tallied a 2-0 mark and 1.14 ERA in five outings since moving from the bullpen to the rotation.

The left-hander is 3-0 with a 2.31 ERA in 13 home games (two starts), surrendering four home runs in 39 combined innings.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Royals with their MLB picks in this affair, as the Marlins have dropped Fernandez’ last seven road starts versus winning teams.
