The Kansas City Royals haven’t scored many runs with James Shields on the mound this season, but that could change against the Cleveland Indians Monday night.

Let’s take a closer look at the MLB odds for this American League Central matchup at Progressive Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.

Check out our Monday Morning MLB Odds & Betting Lines Report.

June bloom

Kansas City enters the week just a game under .500, as the club has tallied an impressive 11-4 record in June, including a 5-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays as +129 road underdogs Sunday.

The Royals are 13-8 against division opponents this season, with the UNDER Going 13-7-1 in that situation.

Turning things around

Cleveland has won four of its last five games after suffering through an eight-game losing streak, as it picked up a 2-0 victory over the Washington Nationals as +107 home underdogs Sunday, while going UNDER the total for the sixth time in seven opportunities.

The Indians are 5-6 as home underdogs of +100 to +125 during the 2013 campaign, but it has compiled a 20-13 overall record at this ballpark.

Royals starting pitcher James Shields (2-6, 2.79 ERA) has watched the club win his last three outings without picking up a decision, including a 3-2 home victory over the Detroit Tigers in his last effort, as he allowed two runs and seven hits over seven frames.

The right-hander is 1-3 with a 2.63 ERA in seven road appearances, issuing eight walks and striking out 47 batters in 48 combined frames.

In nine career games versus the Indians, Shields has tallied a 1-5 record and 3.99 ERA.

Indians starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco (0-2, 15.26 ERA) has dropped both of his starts thus far, including a 6-4 setback on the road to the Detroit Tigers, as he allowed six runs and 10 hits over four frames.

The right-hander 4-10 with a 6.42 ERA in 17 career starts at this venue, with opposing hitters batting .303 against him.

In five lifetime appearances versus the Royals, Carrasco has posted a 2-2 record and 6.33 ERA.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Royals on the run line as one of their MLB picks Monday, as they’ve won 10 of their last 11 games against starting pitchers with a WHIP greater than 1.30.

Shields provides Kansas City a major edge in terms of being able to pitch deeper in this contest, which will allow him to get the ball into the hands of a hot bullpen in the later innings.

MLB Pick:  Kansas City Royals -1.5 (+125)
