The New York Yankees have been scoring runs on their recent homestand, as they continue a four-game series with the Boston Red Sox Friday. Find out why we believe that the 'Over' holds the key to our MLB picks today.

Let’s take a closer look at the MLB betting odds for this American League East matchup at Yankee Stadium, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.

In full command

Boston has won six of its last seven games, including a 9-8 extra-innings victory over New York as -102 underdogs Thursday, while going OVER the betting total for a second consecutive contest.

The Red Sox are 12-11 on the road with a money line of -100 to -125, while also compiling a 29-19 record versus left-handed starters.

Slipping away

New York is likely focused on trying to lock down one of two AL Wild Card spots, but closer Mariano Rivera will likely be unavailable in this affair after blowing his sixth save of the season, as he’s appeared in the team’s last three games.

The Yankees 3-2 as home underdogs of +100 to +125 this season, with the UNDER going 4-1 in that situation.

Red Sox starting pitcher Felix Doubront (10-6, 3.89 ERA) has led the club to three consecutive victories, with the offense providing 32 runs of support over that span.

The left-hander is 5-2 with a 3.82 ERA in 12 road outings, issuing 30 walks and striking out 55 batters in 66 combined frames.

In 11 career games (seven starts) versus the Yankees, Doubront has posted a 3-2 record and 3.33 ERA, but suffered a 10-3 home loss on Aug. 16.

Yankees starting pitcher Andy Pettitte (10-9, 4.01 ERA) didn’t earn a decision in a 7-3 home loss to the Baltimore Orioles last time out, as he allowed two runs and seven hits over six frames.

The left-hander is 4-4 with a 4.63 ERA in 12 home games this season, with opposing hitters batting .305 against him.

In 42 career games (40 starts) versus the Red Sox, Pettitte has tallied a 20-11 record and 3.76 ERA, including a 12-7 mark and 3.78 ERA in 21 efforts in his home ballpark.

I’m going to recommend that readers play the total with their MLB picks, as the OVER is 5-0 in Pettitte’s five career starts with umpire Joe West behind homeplate.

MLB Pick:  Over 9
