The Boston Red Sox and NY Yankees begin the first of a 3-game set in early August at fabled Fenway Park.

NY Yankees (Severino) vs. Boston Red Sox (Porcello)
Normally, this is a part of the AL East pennant race, as numerous times in their storied past, Boston and NY have played meaningful series down the stretch of the season. That is not, however, the case today! Though Boston is still contending for the division crown, or at worst a Wild Card, the Yankees tossed the white flag on August 1st, when they traded 2 key closers, Chapman and Miller, and later divested themselves of a big bat in Beltran and a starting pitcher in Nova. With current form on our side for each team and an apparent pitching mismatch on the mound, we comfortably back the Red Sox on the run line with ample support.

The NYers have been hovering around .500 most of the season. At 56 - 55, they have little upside. The recent announcement that they will be parting ways with A-Rod, after Friday night's home game with Tampa Bay, is further reason to believe the Yankees are tossing the towel on the season. With the starting rotation thin, the Yankees turn to prospect, Severino. He is 1-6 for the season with a 6.02 ERA. He is given this shot once again because of some promising work from the bullpen in recent weeks. In his lone start against the Red Sox, he worked 6 2/3 IP on May 8th, allowing 3 HRs to the powerful Boston bats.

The Red Sox counter with Porcello, who has become the ace of their staff with a record of 14 - 3 and 3.46 ERA. He comes off 2 complete games, though the most recent was a 3-1 loss at Seattle when he allowed a trio of homeruns. Since a 14-20 slide, Boston has gone 18 - 12. That gives far more hope at a clubhouse that is contending than the Yankees have based on their 4 - 7 dip.

We comfortably play the run line knowing the following facts. For the Red Sox, 47 of 60 wins, including 26 of 34 on this field have come by 2 or more runs. For the Yankees, 47 of 55 losses, including 25 of 31 on this field have come by 2 or more runs. I invite you to put the MLB odds in your favor and join me in my MLB pick on the Boston Red Sox tonight.
