Find out why our baseball handicappers are adding the 'Under' to our MLB picks in tonight's matchup between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Los Angeles Angels.

The Tampa Bay Rays ended a five-game losing streak with Tuesday’s 7-1 road win over the Los Angeles Angels, cashing at minus 130 MLB odds. Wednesday’s rematch has a pair of righties slated, with Tampa Bay’s Jeremy Hellickson (10-8, 5.21 ERA) facing Los Angeles’ Jered Weaver (9-7, 3.30 ERA).

Check out our Wednesday Morning MLB Odds & Betting Lines Report.

Rays, Myers end skid

Rays outfielder Wil Myers poked a pair of doubles in Tuesday’s win, while mate Ben Zobrist drove in two runs as part of a 1-for-3 night. Tampa Bay edged out the Angels in hits, 15-4, while the lopsided affair’s combined eight runs jumped OVER the ‘total’ of 7 ½.

Los Angeles’ J.B. Shuck and Mark Trumbo were both held to 0-for-4 outings from their leadoff and cleanup spots, respectively. Angels shortstop Erick Aybar finished 1-for-2, while logging his club’s sole error.

Hellickson lit up in K.C.

Hellickson notched his fifth loss in six starts with last Monday’s 11-1 setback for Tampa Bay to the Kansas City Royals, failing to cash as a 112 road favorite. The 26-year-old was shelled for five runs in 2 2/3 frames, giving up seven hits and two walks.

Rays first baseman James Loney drove in his side’s sole run, while mate Matt Joyce drilled two doubles in a 3-for-3 day. Tampa Bay’s Evan Longoria and Kelly Johnson were held to a combined 0-for-8, leaving five men on base.

Weaver shuts down Brewers

Jered Weaver came away with a second straight win in Friday’s 5-0 victory for Los Angeles as 123 road ‘chalk’ against the Milwaukee Brewers. The three-time All-Star stood in for six innings, holding Milwaukee to three hits.

Angels second baseman Grant Green notched three RBIs, while outfielder Kole Calhoun cracked a homer as part of a 2-for-3 night. Los Angeles’ Michael Kohn and Cory Rasmus relieved Weaver to complete their staff’s shutout, allowing three hits over the final trio of frames.

Back the UNDER in Anaheim

MLB odds first opened Weaver as a 135 home favorite, while first setting the ‘total’ at 7 ½ (UNDER minus 115). Los Angeles’ Josh Hamilton (19 HRs) is listed as “questionable” after missing Tuesday’s game with a sinus illness.

I am adding the UNDER in this duel to Wednesday’s MLB picks, looking for the series to get tighter here.

Weaver has surrendered just two long balls over his last six home starts (42 IP), with the UNDER cashing at 5-1 through that stretch. The Northridge native has held foes to a 1.14 WHIP and .292 at “The Big A” over the season, while the UNDER is 6-0 in Los Angeles’ last six spots that followed a contest of scoring two runs or less.

Hellickson should be in position to settle back down here, while tossing a pair of tight affairs last year against the Angels. The fourth-year hurler held Los Angeles to one earned run over a combined 12 IP, giving up just seven hits.

The UNDER is 6-0-2 in Hellickson’s last eight starts as a road dog of plus 150 or less, while going 6-2 in the team’s most recent eight affairs facing a starter with below a 1.15 WHIP. Look for UNDER backers to collect again here, ending the set’s 2-0 run for the OVER.
