Find out why we believe that the total holds the best value for our MLB picks in tonight's matchup between the San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants.

The San Diego Padres rallied for a 5-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants in Monday’s 13-inning opener between the rivals, cashing as 110 home choices. Tuesday’s rematch has a pair of right-handed starters slated, with San Francisco’s Matt Cain (5-3, 4.70 ERA) facing San Diego’s Andrew Cashner (5-3, 3.52 ERA).

Check out our Tuesday Morning MLB Odds & Betting Lines Report.

Padres, Headley surge past Giants

San Diego notched its seventh straight win with Monday’s victory, erasing an early 3-1 deficit. Padres third baseman Chase Headley brought in the team’s tying run in the seventh inning, followed by the squads staying deadlocked for five more frames.

San Francisco was edged in hits, 18-10, with outfielder Hunter Pence held to a 0-for-5 night from the cleanup spot. Giants mates Brandon Belt and Joaquin Arias drove in one run each, uniting to hit 3-for-8.

Padres relievers Nick Vincent and Huston Street notched their staff’s win and save, respectively, allowing just one hit each over the affair’s final three innings. The contest’s eight runs ‘pushed’ the closing ‘total,’ while neither side logged an error.

Cain shuts down Pirates

Matt Cain recorded his fifth win in eight starts with Thursday’s 10-0 victory for San Francisco over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 28-year-old allowed two hits over 6 2/3 frames of shutout ball, collecting as 125 road ‘chalk.’

Giants mates Gregor Blanco and Buster Posey both went 3-for-5 at the plate, driving in two runs each. San Francisco belted four doubles as part of 17 hits, while helped by three errors from Pittsburgh.

Cashner collects at home

Cashner picked up his first victory over three outings in Tuesday’s 3-2 triumph for San Diego as a 116 home dog against the Atlanta Braves. The Texas native lasted eight innings, allowing both of Atlanta’s runs on six hits.

San Diego’s Carlos Quentin and Nick Hundley logged one RBI each, while mate Kyle Blanks left four men on base in a 0-for-3 night. Padres relievers Joe Thatcher and Luke Gregerson came away with a hold and save, combining for three strikeouts in the ninth frame.

Back the OVER in San Francisco

MLB odds first opened Cain as 141 home ‘chalk’ at Bet365, with early wagers on the Giants lifting the MLB odds to 150. The ‘total’ was first posted at a flat seven, followed by a minus 125 tag to the UNDER after initial action.

I am adding the OVER to my MLB picks here, looking for looser affair compared to Monday’s opener.

Cain has seen the OVER cash at 4-1-1 in his six home starts, while facing some capable bats in the Padres’ lineup here. San Diego’s Kyle Blanks has a homer and triple in nine trips against Cain’s arm, while coming in with two long balls over his last three games.

Cashner has allowed seven runs over his last 13 IP on the road, while the OVER is 5-1-1 in San Diego’s last seven spots as a road dog. Giants slugger Buster Posey has drilled two homers in a 4-for-9 career mark facing Cashner, with the OVER going 3-1-1 in San Francisco’s last five games that came after a loss.

The weather at AT&T Park is expected to cooperate for OVER backers, with 15 mph winds blowing out to center field. Look for the OVER to cash with some early runs, adding to the 7-2 mark for the wager in Cain’s last nine outings against San Diego.
