The Baltimore Orioles (53-43) faces the Texas Rangers (54-41) in their first games back from the All-Star Game.

These are teams of equal talent and with Holland and Chen taking the mound. Will we see a shortage of runs in this game? LEt's look at the baseball odds.

First-pitch is set for 8:05 pm ET tonight at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.  This game will take place in Arlington, Texas.

Texas is currently a -146 betting favorite at Bet365 and the total for the game is 9 runs.

Holland vs. Chen

This game is a contest of two teams that can hit well and have very respectable pitchers tonight in Wei Yin Chen (4-3, 2.82) vs. Derek Holland (8-4, 3.08). How will this game play out? Will it be a pitcher’s duel or will we see a lot of runs?

In his last 10 starts, Holland has been merely average with 6 out of the 10 starts considered quality. That said, he’s coming off of  big win against Detroit in which he allowed just 1 run on 5 hits in 7 innings.

Baltimore, just like Detroit, is a hard hitting ball club. Can Holland duplicate the performance against another tough ball club? He’s going to have his hands full with the likes of Nate McClouth, Adam Jones, Nick Markakis, Manny Machado, and the home run king at the moment, Chris Davis.

I’m Coming Home

Davis will be returning to Texas as the home run leader with 37 dingers. Davis has found the answer in Baltimore in which he couldn’t find in his home state of Texas. Davis has been a beast all season at 37 home runs, 93 runs batted in, and batting at .315.

The only offensive category that Davis doesn’t lead the O’s in is doubles and nobody is catching Manny Machado as he looks to set a record. The only person to stop Chris Davis at this point is himself. Davis believes the single season home run record to be 61, set by Roger Maris. It will be interesting to see if Davis can hit another 25 home runs to break that plateau.

“Yo, Adrian”

Unfortunately for Mr. Beltre, he didn’t make the All-Star team and had some really good numbers in the 1st half of the season to the tune of 21 home runs, 55 runs batted in, and a .315 batting average.

In his last 10 games, Beltre has 5 home runs and 10 runs batted in. He is always a threat to go yard ,especially at his own ball park.

Along with Beltre, the Rangers have PED poster boy, Nelson Cruz. Cruz is having a fine season, but one can only wonder what’s ahead of him due to the allegations against him. Cruz leads the Rangers in runs batted in and for now, the Rangers need his bat, especially in a competitive game such as this.

These are two teams that can put up big numbers. Even on the road, the O’s scare me as Chris Davis has something to prove. I think that we’re going to go with the total for our baseball picks in this game. While these aren’t elite pitchers, they should be enough to hold down the fort and keep this game UNDER 9 runs.
