Find out why we believe that the total holds the best value for our MLB picks in tonight's matchup between the Chicago Cubs and the Los Angeles Angels.

The Los Angeles Angels came from behind in Tuesday’s 4-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs, ending a four-game losing streak as a 186 home favorite. Wednesday’s MLB slate has the two-game set wrapping up with Angels southpaw Jason Vargas (5-3, 3.34 ERA) slated to face Cubs righty Matt Garza (1-0, 3.38 ERA).

Check out our Wednesday Morning MLB Odds & Betting Lines Report.

Angels, Pujols rally past Cubs

Angels first baseman Albert Pujols poked a two-run homer in Tuesday’s eighth inning, finishing with three RBIs. Los Angeles’ Erick Aybar and Howie Kendrick united to bat 5-for-7, including Aybar’s 12th double of the year.

Cubs mates Alfonso Soriano and Ryan Sweeney drove in one run each, hitting a combined 5-for-8. Angels closer Ernesto Frieri notched his 13th save with two strikeouts in the final frame, while the matchup’s seven runs cashed UNDER tickets for my followers by a ‘hook.’

Vargas continues surging streak

Vargas logged a fourth straight win with Thursday’s 3-2 triumph for the Angels as 185 home ‘chalk’ over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 30-year-old allowed both of the Dodgers’ runs on five hits, lasting seven innings.

Angels mates Chris Iannetta and Chris Nelson united to hit 3-for-6, notching one RBI each. Howie Kendrick poked a double and triple, with Mike Scioscia’s club edging the Dodgers in hits, 9-6.

Garza stays stingy in win

Garza ended a string of two no-decision’s with a victory in Friday’s 7-2 win for Chicago against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The California native collected as a 116 home favorite, allowing both of Arizona’s runs over seven frames.

Cubs outfielder Scott Hairston cracked a grand slam for one of his side’s three homers, while mate Darwin Barney finished 1-for-2 from the lineup’s No. 8 slot. Chicago’s Anthony Rizzo poked his 17th double of the year, while catcher Welington Castillo was held to a 0-for-4 day.

Back the UNDER again here

MLB odds opened Vargas as a 165 home favorite, while first listing the ‘total’ at 7 ½. The late afternoon affair’s weather forecast calls for a clear 73 degrees, with calm winds.

When it comes to my free picks tonight, I am staying on the UNDER train here, looking for another tight battle between these foes.

Vargas has been stingy at home, giving up a 1.12 WHIP and .283 OBP over six starts. The eight-year veteran has surrendered just two homers over his last 30 IP at Angel Stadium, with the UNDER cashing at 3-1 in that span’s four outings.

Garza has been relatively solid in his three outings, while holding the Detroit Tigers to three runs in his sole interleague road start last year. The UNDER is 16-4-1 in Chicago’s last 21 spots against American League clubs starting a southpaw, while the UNDER moved to 3-0-1 in the Cubs’ last four interleague road games with Tuesday’s defeat.

Umpire Cory Blaser has seen the UNDER cash at 2-1 in his last three called games, while the same wager has collected at a 3-1-3 clip in the Denver native’s last seven interleague games behind home plate. Look for the UNDER to get the money again here, with another close contest down the stretch between these foes.
