Adam Wainwright was named the National League’s Pitcher of the Month in June, which provides the St. Louis Cardinals an advantage over the Los Angeles Angels Thursday. What have the MLB odds makers laid out on offer, and where are we looking to place our bets?

Let’s take a closer look at the MLB betting odds for this interleague matchup at Angel Stadium, with the first pitch scheduled for 9:05 p.m. ET.

Trying to put something together

St. Louis hasn’t won back-to-back games since June 19-20, as it comes off a 12-2 victory over Los Angeles as -102 road underdogs Wednesday, while going OVER the betting total for the third time in four contests.

The Cardinals are 36-25 as road favorites of -125 to -150 the last two-plus seasons, with the OVER going 35-24-2 in that situation.

A slumping star

Los Angeles has managed to win seven of its last 10 games—even though first baseman Albert Pujols has gone 4-for-41 at the plate over that span

The former Cardinals star is hitless in seven at-bats against his former team in the first two games of this series.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the Angels are 1-7 as home underdogs of +125 to +150, with the UNDER going 6-2 in those eight affairs.

Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright (11-5, 2.22 ERA) snapped a two-game losing streak by picking up a 7-1 complete game victory on the road against the Oakland Athletics, as he issued two walks and struck out eight batters.

The right-hander is 8-1 with a 2.50 ERA in 10 road outings, surrendering just two home runs in 72 combined innings.

Wainwright has compiled an 8-5 record and 2.92 ERA in 21 interleague games (15 starts), but he’s never faced the Angels in his career.

Angels starting pitcher Joe Blanton (2-10, 5.07 ERA) snapped a personal three-game losing streak last time out, as he tallied a 7-2 road victory over the Houston Astros, allowing two runs and three hits over seven strong innings.

The right-hander has compiled an 0-4 record and 5.04 ERA in eight home efforts, with opposing hitters batting .316 against him.

In eight career games (seven starts) versus the Cardinals, Blanton is 3-2 with a 4.34 ERA.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Cardinals in the first five innings as one of their MLB picks Thursday, but only if outfielder Matt Holliday returns to the lineup after missing the first two games of this series.

St. Louis is a dominating 13-3 in Wainwright’s last 16 starts as a road favorite of -110 to -150.
