The Houston Astros cashed as 288 road dogs in Saturday’s 9-5 victory over the Texas Rangers, evening the rivals’ weekend set.

Sunday afternoon’s MLB betting has the rubber matchup slated, with Rangers right-hander Justin Grimm (7-6, 5.84 ERA) facing Astros southpaw Erik Bedard (3-4, 4.59 ERA).

Astros, Castro answer back

Astros catcher Jason Castro cracked a late three-run homer in Saturday’s win, giving his club a 7-4 lead. Houston’s Brett Wallace drilled a pair of doubles, while Marc Krauss finished 3-for-4.

Rangers sluggers Nelson Cruz and Adrian Beltre united to bat 5-for-8, with Cruz poking his 22nd long ball of the year. Texas was edged out in hits, 11-10, while the contest’s combined 14 runs leaped OVER the ‘total’ of nine.

Grimm lit up at home

Grimm saw a string of two wins end with Tuesday’s 9-2 defeat for Texas as 160 home ‘chalk’ against the Seattle Mariners. The 24-year-old allowed five earned runs on seven hits, giving up three homers in four innings.

Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus finished 2-for-5 with one RBI, while catcher A.J. Pierzynski left six men on base in a 0-for-4 night. Texas’ Ian Kinsler logged his side’s sole error, leading to one unearned run.

Bedard shelled by Rays

Bedard logged his first loss in four starts on the same night, falling as a 170 home dog in Houston’s 8-0 setback to the Tampa Bay Rays. The Ontario native gave up four runs on six hits, while surrendering six walks over 5 1/3 frames.

Houston’s Jake Elmore and Jose Altuve were held to a combined 0-for-8 from their lineup’s top two spots. Astros catcher Carlos Corporan hit 2-for-3, while reliever Brett Oberholtzer allowed three runs over the final two innings.

Back the OVER on Sunday

Bet365 opened Grimm as a 200 favorite, while first setting the ‘total’ at 9 ½ (OVER minus 120). Texas ends its nine-game homestand here with Monday’s outing in Baltimore looming. Houston gets a day off before resuming its road trip in Tuesday’s opener with the St. Louis Cardinals.

I am adding the OVER in this battle to Sunday’s sports picks, looking for the slugging in this set keep up here.

Grimm moved to a sizable 1.43 WHIP and .326 OBP at home after Tuesday’s defeat, while the OVER has cashed at 3-1 in the righty’s last four outings at Rangers Ballpark. Texas has notched its share of scoring support, driving in 5.3 RPG over its last three home dates facing lefty starters.

Bedard has not had a start away from home in four weeks, allowing six runs in 4 2/3 IP as part of his most recent road outing in Kansas City. The 10-year veteran has seen the OVER cash at 5-3 among his eight starts in opposing stadiums, while Texas’ Adrian Beltre and Nelson Cruz have two homers each in a combined 41 at-bat’s facing Bedard.

Umpire Jeff Nelson is slated to call the balls and strikes, with the OVER collecting at a 6-2 clip in the Minnesota native’s last eight affairs behind the dish. Look for OVER wagers to cash again here.
