Find out why our cappers are backing the LA Angels as underdogs in tonight's matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays. Read on for a full matchup preview and our free MLB picks for this showdown.

The Los Angeles Angels rallied for their second straight win over the Toronto Blue Jays with Wednesday’s 5-4 road victory, cashing at minus 105 MLB odds. Thursday’s finale has Angels righty Garrett Richards (6-6, 3.90 ERA) meeting Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ (4-5, 5.09 ERA).

Check out our Thursday Morning MLB Odds & Betting Lines Report.

Angels, Calhoun edge out Jays

Los Angeles’ Kole Calhoun poked a pair of sacrifice flies in Wednesday’s win, while mate Josh Hamilton hit 3-for-3 from the cleanup spot. Angels slugger Mark Trumbo cracked his 33rd homer, while closer Ernesto Frieri allowed no hits in the final frame for his 32nd save.

Blue Jays outfielder Moises Sierra poked two doubles and a triple, finishing with a 3-for-4 night. Toronto’s Jose Reyes and Adam Lind were both held to 0-for-3 outings, while the contest’s combined nine runs leaped OVER the ‘total’ of 8 ½.

Happ ends slide in Minny

Happ notched his first win in four starts with Saturday’s 11-2 triumph for Toronto over the Minnesota Twins. The Illinois native held Minnesota to one run over 5 2/3 innings, cashing as a 104 road dog.

Blue Jays infielders Brett Lawrie and Munenori Kawasaki hit a combined 5-for-9, uniting for three RBIs. Toronto finished with 15 hits, while the lopsided affair’s 13 runs soared OVER the MLB odds ‘total’ of 8 ½.

Richards collects at home

Richards also cashed on the same night’s card, with Los Angeles logging an 8-3 win against the Texas Rangers. The 25-year-old allowed one earned run over seven frames, collecting as a 123 home dog for my followers.

Los Angeles’ J.B. Shuck and Chris Iannetta united to bat 4-for-8, while second baseman Grant Green drove in three runs from the lineup’s No. 9 slot. The Angels edged out Texas in hits, 11-9, while helped by the Rangers’ four errors.

Back the Angels on the road

Most sports betting sites opened Richards as a 109 road favorite, while first posting the ‘total’ at nine (OVER minus 120). Toronto’s Edwin Encarnacion (36 HRs, 104 RBIs) has missed the series’ first two games with a wrist injury and is listed as “doubtful” for this finale.

I am adding Richards and the Angels to Thursday’s MLB picks, looking for Mike Scioscia’s club to complete a road sweep here.

Richards tossed a tight affair against the Blue Jays last month, with Los Angeles cashing as a minus 105 home choice in an 8-2 victory. Toronto was held to four hits over the righty’s seven frames of action, while Richards has allowed just six earned runs over his last four road starts (23 2/3 IP).

Happ has been shelled early in his last pair of home outings, giving up 10 runs over the span’s 8 2/3 innings. The southpaw has surrendered a 1.39 WHIP at Rogers Centre, while Toronto has logged a 1-5 mark in his six home starts.

Los Angeles is 8-1 in its last nine road dates against clubs with losing records, while going 6-2 in its most recent eight spots that came after scoring five or more runs. Toronto is 4-11 in its last 15 matchups as a home dog, while going 1-4 in its last five spots that came after losing the first two games of a series.

Look for the Angels’ hot trends to hold up here, cashing at a low premium with Richards on the hill.
