We’ve gotten some NFL out of our systems, now it’s MLB Sunday and check out who we think gives you the best opportunity to have a winning day when we make our MLB Picks of the Day.
Philadelphia Phillies (52-64) at Washington Nationals (56-60)
You get a bit of an unusual start time at 5:05 pm ET Stephen Strasburg (5-9, 3.01) takes the mound for the Nats and he’ll be opposed by Kyle Kendrick (10-8, 4.36). This game all hinges upon Washington’s ability to be effective off of Kendrick. This should be a good one for our MLB picks.
We’ve heard this story many times before. I’m actually surprised that Strasburg’s ERA is a bit above 3.00 because he’s pitched lights out; it’s his team that has failed him.
The Nationals have scored 2 runs or less for Strasburg in his last 10 starts. One huge 11 run outburst against San Diego misleads you statistically, but make no mistake about it, the offense has let Strasburg and the pitching staff down.
Washington is coming off of an 8-5 victory in which they came back from an early 4-0 deficit against the Phils to overtake them in the end.

“Werth” the Money
Jayson Werth might look like a hockey player, but he’s definitely an adequate baseball player. Werth is having a superstar season, hitting .322 with 17 HR and 48 RBI in 298 at-bats. Werth is coming off of a 3 for 3 performance against Philly on Saturday in which he had a homer and 3 runs batted in.
In his last 3 games, Werth is 6 for 11 with 6 runs scored, 2 HR and 5 RBI. This is definitely a player to keep an eye on as he faces his old team.
Too much juice to be layed with Strasburg and the Nats. Let’s take the run-line here for our Sunday sports picks. Pitching wins games and the Nationals have a major advantage and are coming off of a nice win.

Sunday Night Baseball
I always like to provide that Sunday Night betting fix as Sunday Night Baseball is usually the only game going on.
Tampa Bay Rays (66-49) at Los Angeles Dodgers (66-50)
The Dodgers have proved their point this season as they lead the National League West Division; they’re back. This is a great matchup because you have the wild card leader in the AL in the Tampa Bay Rays and they face the best ERA in the major leagues in Clayton Kershaw (10-7, 1.91).
Best In the League?
His earned run average is the best in the league but Max Scherzer is 17-1 and Matt Harvey is an up and coming superstar on a lousy team. The dispute on who is the best pitcher in baseball is still in question, but Kershaw is definitely a candidate.
Like Strasburg, Kershaw never gets the run support needed or he would have around 15 wins. He’s coming off of a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in which he allowed 2 runs in 6 innings. This is the way that the season has gone for Kershaw. He’s officially had 8 consecutive quality outings in his last 10 starts and just 4 wins to show for it.
The Dodgers are coming off of a 4-0 victory over the Rays and Skip Schumaker, of all people, was the hero as he belted out 4 hits in total. Yasiel Puig was hitless yesterday, but continues to remain on a tear as he sports a .376 batting average in 226 at-bats. This won’t qualify him for the lead league in hitting, but at the moment, he has a higher average than the great Miguel Cabrera.
Sunday Night Baseball is the perfect venue for a gamer and a bit of a glory-hog like Puig. He could have a big game here as the Rays start an average pitcher in Jeremy Hellickson. Hellickson hasn’t pitched well in his last 2 starts and this is a chance for a “W” for Kershaw.
