Let's review a couple sure winners for our MLB picks of the day to supplement our college football betting action.

It’s the last day of August and while some bettors will be following the 1st Saturday in NCAA Football, others will be following the highly contested playoff races in Major League Baseball with just over a month remaining in the regular season. Let’s see who offers the best chance for profit in MLB Picks of the Day?

St.Louis Cardinals (78-56) at Pittsburgh Pirates (78-56)

Best Game of the Night

Tonight will be a dogfight between the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates that are in a deadlocked tie for 1st place in the National League Central Division. These teams have been exchanging possession of the top spot all season long. This will go down to the wire.

The Pirates are coming off of a huge 5-0 victory over the Cardinals as ace Francisco Liriano picked up his 15th win of the season.

Garrett Jones was the surprise hero of the day as he went 3 for 4 with 1 HR and 4 RBI’s on the day. The Pirates can certainly use games like this in which a role player carries the load and eases the burden on superstar Andrew McCutchen. Jones was just 1 for 29 in his previous 11 games to last night’s outburst. Can he be a consistent contributor as the Pirates attempt to win the division remains to be seen?

Lynn vs. Burnett

A.J. Burnett (6-9, 3.18) has been spectacular since joining the Pirates from the Mets and this seems to be a good spot for him as Cardinals starter, Lance Lynn (13-8, 4.02) has pitched poorly as of late.

Lynn hasn’t picked up a win since August 4th and in his last 25 innings (4 starts) has allowed 17 runs on 29 hits. If Lynn continues to pitch like this, the Cardinals will need their offense to step up. Despite being shut out last night, they have one of the deepest lineups in the majors from top to bottom.

Leadoff man, Matt Carpenter, has had the greatest success for the Cards against St. Louis at 4 for 11 lifetime, but anybody in this Cardinals lineup is capable of teeing off on Burnett if he’s off of his game.

Look for Lynn to put forth a solid outing and  expect a pitcher’s duel in this very important game between two top flight pitchers and baseball squads.

San Diego Padres (60-74) at Los Angeles Dodgers (79-55)

Offense is Key

We know that the Dodgers possess possibly the best pitchers in the majors in Clayton Kershaw, but what has made this team go on one of the biggest runs that you’ll ever see and why they’re dominating the National League West Division with a 10.5 game lead is their hitting.

Hanley Ramirez (15 HR, 46 RBI, .346 BA, 10 SB in 246 at-bats), Adrian Gonzalez (19 HR, 85 RBI, .293 BA), and superstar Yasiel Puig (13 HR, 31 RBI,  354 BA, 10 SB in 294 at-bats) are the difference from this team being a barely average team to a World Series contending team.

All 3 players came up big again last night in a 9-2 slaughtering of the helpless Padres as they were a combined 8 for 13 with 5 runs and 7 runs batted in. Gonzo was the star of the game with home runs and 4 runs batted in. A Cashner (8-8, 3.55) vs. Capuano (4-7, 4.74) starting pitching matchup makes this game fairly even, but the Dodger have the momentum, are at home, and have the better offense.

Look for L.A. to win easily as Don Mattingly is the deserving frontrunner for Manager of the Year.

Free Pick- Los Angeles at -1.5 betting odds +135 at Bet 365.
