Sports oddsmakers are both seeing as close calls. The Colorado Rockies look to sweep their road set with San Diego Padres, while the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers play a rubber finale at Chase Field.
Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres
Colorado sends left-hander Jorge De La Rosa against Padres southpaw Clayton Richard, with both starters still in search of their first win. De La Rosa has given up seven earned runs over his first two starts, while Richard has surrendered four homers in his first 9 1/3 frames of action.
De La Rosa has not faced the Padres since 2011, allowing five runs on nine hits en route to a 12-7 victory for Colorado as a 174 home favorite. Richard went 1-1 in two road outings (11 2/3 IP) against the Rockies last season, shelled for a combined 11 runs at Coors Field.
5Dimes.eu opened De La Rosa as a 114 road favorite for Sunday’s matchup, with early action on San Diego dropping the Mexico native’s odds to minus 112. The ‘total’ was first set at eight, driven south to 7 ½ at other MLB betting shops after initial UNDER wagers.
I am adding a ticket on San Diego in this spot, taking a home dog price of plus 107. The Padres have dropped four straight but have gone 6-1 in Richard’s last seven home starts, cashing at 4-0 in the hurler’s most recent four outings as a home dog.
De La Rosa has not seen a lot of the Padres, but San Diego’s Cameron Maybin and Nick Hundley have had some success against him. Maybin has found himself benched after a slump, but could be leveraged here with a 3-for-4 career mark facing De La Rosa. Hundley has drilled two doubles in 10 at bats against the southpaw.
Richard should toss a tighter affair here at Petco compared to last year’s outings in Colorado, while facing a Rockies’ squad that is 7-20 in its last 27 road games against lefty starters.
Pick: San Diego Padres +107 at 5Dimes.eu for your MLB Picks.
Los Angeles Dodgers at Arizona Diamondbacks
Sunday’s rubber match between these foes has a pair of right-handed starters slated, with Arizona’s Trevor Cahill squaring off against Los Angeles’ Josh Beckett.
Cahill is 0-2 to start the season, allowing seven earned runs as part of 10 2/3 IP in home defeats to the the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals. The 25-year-old picked up three wins and two no-decision’s in five starts against the Dodgers last year, holding Don Mattingly’s club to 10 earned runs over 31 2/3 IP.
Beckett has logged a loss and no-decision to begin his 2013 campaign, allowing a combined six earned runs against the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres (11 IP). The stretch included two homers given up in both affairs as part of six hits surrendered each time out.
Cahill opened as 130 home ‘chalk’ at Bookmaker.eu, with the ‘total’ first set at a flat nine. Both remained unchanged after early wagers were mixed.
I am backing Beckett and the Dodgers here, looking to cash with road dog baseballodds of plus 110.
Beckett has given up his share of long balls, but also could see more run support from his mates than before here. Los Angeles has gone 7-1 in its last eight games against righty starters, while Saturday’s 7-5 victory should give the Dodgers a boost going into this finale.
Dodgers outfielders Carl Crawford and Andre Ethier hit a combined 4-for-9 in yesterday’s affair, while mate Adrian Gonzalez cracked a homer as part of a 3-for-4 night. Crawford is 3-for-7 lifetime against Cahill, while Gonzalez has one homer in nine at-bat’s facing the California native.
Arizona moved to 0-5 in its last five spots as a home favorite of minus 150 or less, with another defeat looming here at an overvalued price.
MLB Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers +110 at Bookmaker.eu
