MLB Picks: Baseball Picks for Sunday

It’s time for some Sunday Picks of the Day! The days have been consistently profitable and let’s see if we keep that going when making our picks as a couple of underdogs seems quite appealing.

Underdogs

I’ve been relying heavily on the New York Yankees as of late and it’s been paying off. The whole idea is that you can take two underdogs and as long as one hits, you’re either on the positive side and that’s what has happened the past few days with the Yankees proving that they’re not  an underdog to any team in reality.

With all of the early starts on Sunday , we won’t be able to use the Yanks as a crutch, but there’s plenty of late afternoon matchups and Sunday Night Baseball. Let’s get to it, finding the most profit in the MLB odds!

Philadelphia Phillies (17-21) at Arizona Diamondbacks (21-16)

Reliever, Jonathan Papelbon hasn’t gotten many chances to save a game thus far, but the Phillies gave him the opportunity on Saturday and he sealed the deal as the Fightin Phils defeated the D’Backs behind the hitting of Jimmy Rollins and Ben Revere in a low scoring game.

Complimentary Players

Rollins isn’t the MVP that he once was, but with his added offense and ability to getting in scoring position, he makes the Phillies a more formidable team when Utley and Howard are having poor games.

He’s become a complimentary player along with Ben Revere and these are the types of players that can make a difference in a ball game

Revere’s batting average has moved up 40 points this past week and his 7 steals makes up for his lack of pop. Ben Revere is 3 for 9 for his career against Arizona’s starter, today, Brandon McCarthy (0-3, 6.75). Jimmy Rollins on the other hand is 6 for his last 16 with 2 doubles, 1 HR and 3 RBI in his last 4 games.

Philadelphia needs their continued support even against a pitcher who’s lacked success this season in McCarthy. McCarthy hasn’t been a total disaster, lacking run support, and has given up a t least 1 home run in his last 5 starts.

The D’Backs and Paul Goldschmidt will need to be at their best when starter Kyle Kendrick (4-1, 2.45) takes the mound. Kendrick has been spectacular, going deep into ball games while giving up 2 runs or less in his last 6 starts.

The D’Backs have been the better team this season and the home field advantage has made them the betting favorite. The Phillies are a sound underdog and the bet to make in this spot.

Pick – Philadelphia +113 for your MLB picks.

SUNDAY NIGHT BASEBALL

Los Angeles Angels (14-22) at Chicago White Sox (14-20)

Underachievers

Sunday night is supposed to be the marquee matchup, but instead, the Los Angeles Angels have been the biggest disappointment of the season from any fans perspective. When you have a lineup of Trout, Pujols, Hamilton, and Trumbo, you expect big-time results, but instead this team is 9 games behind the Texas Rangers in the American League West Division.

The Angels have been so bad that they’re actually on a 3 game winning streak and find themselves in the position that they’re in.

No Doubt About Trout!

While Josh Hamilton and Albert Pujols are playing like overpriced “bums”, Mike Trout is starting to shake out of his sophomore slump.

In his last 8 games, he’s 12 for 34 with 3 HR and 8 RBI. Trout is coming off of a 2 for 4 performance yesterday  with 1 HR and 2 RBI and the Halos have to feel good about his progress. It appears that the Angels will go as far as Trout takes them; he sets the tone.

Getting Old?

Part of the reason for the White Sox’s demise has been the poor play of the usually reliable Paul Konerko. Konerko is having a disastrous start to this season and many wonder if he’ll regain the touch that’s made him a superstar in the past. He’s hitting just .220 on the season with 4 HR and 16 RBI. Chicago can’t be happy about this.

Wilson vs. Sale

This game could come down to the pitching as both starting pitchers can shutdown any offense in the majors. While Chris Sale has been sailing along, C.J. Wilson came up with a huge 12 strikeout performance in his last outing against Houston , but still picked up the loss in a 7-6 defeat.

This game appears to be an even matchup, but in reality, the Angels are the better team and are on a mini-winning streak. Take the underdog Angels in tonight’s game.
