The Angels will attempt to rebound after dropping the opener of a three-game set in Texas. Let's evaluate the MLB odds and shoot for our eighth straight winner in tonight's matchup of AL West rivals.

Record: 14-7, +6.87 units

Los Angeles Angels (11-12, -2.1 units)
The Angels had their modest three-game winning streak snapped last night and disappointed all of their backers who included the -140 road favorites in their MLB picks last night. Los Angeles held a 2-1 advantage until the Rangers struck for three runs in the bottom of the sixth and shut the door the rest of the way en route to a 4-2 win over their AL West rivals. The Angels' offense has been lethargic all season and is now in the bottom third of all the major offensive categories such as team batting average (26th), runs scored (25th), on base percentage (25th) and slugging percentage (29th).

LA's veteran right-hander Matt Shoemaker (1-3) owns a dazzling 1.46 ERA on the road and has a 2.89 ERA in his three career starts in Globe Life Park, home of the Texas Rangers. However, Shoemaker was thunderstruck in his last appearance when Seattle chased him after three innings of work in which he allowed six hits on seven runs (six earned) in the 9-4 home loss to the Mariners on Sunday. Shoemaker has faced this Texas lineup just once this season where the Rangers hammered him for seven hits and six earned runs in only three innings of work in a 7-3 loss back on April 8th.

Texas Rangers (13-10, +5.0 units)
Texas is gunning for their fourth consecutive win and sits atop the AL West as they enter tonight's contest against the Angels. Last night they rallied to claim a 4-2 victory over their guests with key contributions from Colby Lewis who tossed seven solid innings allowing just two runs and a go-ahead double from Ian Desmond who has eight hits over his last five games. The Rangers now rank 12th in runs scored with 99 on the season and their club's .251 team batting average is good for 13th in the majors.

The Rangers will hand the ball to southpaw Derek Holland (2-1) who will start on five days' rest for the only time this season. The veteran lefty is 9-6 in 24 career appearances against the Angels with a 5.52 ERA. However, Holland has pitched well this season sporting a 2-1 record and a 3.13 ERA to complement a 1.13 WHIP. In his only start this season against the Angels Holland tossed five innings and surrendered three earned runs on four hits in a 4-3 loss at Angel Stadium back on April 7th but did not factor in the decision.

Betting Analysis
The MLB odds makers have this one close to a coin flip with the hometown Rangers tagged as the narrowest of favorites. The Angels have the big bat of Mike Trout on their side who leads his team in virtually every major offensive category except RBI which belongs to slugger Albert Pujols with 14 on the season. Pujols is certainly not the perennial MVP candidate he once was but the power is still there with 5 long balls on the season despite a dismal .172 batting average.

The Rangers have the better lineup from top to bottom with Elvis Andrus getting off to a sparkling start with a .333 batting average and solid contributions from former All-Stars Adrian Beltre and Prince Fielder. The Rangers have hit LA's starter Matt Shoemaker at a .278 clip lifetime and the Angels are 0-4 in Shoemaker's last four starts against teams with a winning record. Conversely, the Rangers are 5-0 in Holland's last five home starts versus the Angels and 5-1 overall in their last six contests against AL West opponents.

Texas's left fielder Ian Desmond has been heating up recently and with the No. 2 man in the rotation Derek Holland pitching well we are leaning towards the Texas Rangers to cop their fourth straight win over a pitcher in Matt Shoemaker who has had the propensity to get lit up this season and has had trouble with the Rangers in the past.
