The Detroit Tigers land in a must-win situation Tuesday, as they prepare to host the Oakland Athletics at Comerica Park. When it comes to placing our MLB picks tonight, are we willing to trust the Tigers with our cash?

Let’s take a closer look at the MLB betting odds for Game 4 of this 2013 American League Division Series, with the first pitch scheduled for 5:07 p.m. ET on TBS.

Review the Series Price for the A's vs. Tigers ALDS matchup.

Starts at the top

Oakland owns a 2-1 advantage in this best-of-five series, as it picked up a 6-3 win over Detroit as +138 road underdogs in Game 3 Monday, while going OVER the betting total of 7.

Athletics outfielder Coco Crisp is the player to watch in terms of leading the offense, as he’s gone 7 for 19 in his career against today’s opposing starter, while the club has launched four home runs through three contests.

MLB handicappers will find that the franchise has won its last eight games as a road underdog of +110 to +150.

On the brink

Detroit is on the brink of elimination, but it has won three of its last five games in that type of situation.  The offense has scored in just two of 27 innings in this matchup, which is a major concern when looking to back the home favorite in this spot.

It’s also important to point out that teams that have fallen behind 2-1 in a Division Series have ultimately been knocked out 35 out of 43 times.

Athletics starting pitcher Dan Straily (10-8, 3.96 ERA) suffered a 3-1 road loss to the Los Angeles Angels in his last regular season outing on Sept. 25, as he allowed three runs (one earned) and seven hits over 6.2 innings.

The right-hander went 5-4 with a 4.11 ERA in 15 road appearances, surrendering 10 home runs in 85.1 combined frames.

Straily tallied a 14-4 road win in his only career start against the Tigers on Aug. 28—giving up a single run and eight hits over six innings of work.

Tigers starting pitcher Doug Fister (14-9, 3.67 ERA) finished the year with a 3-2 record and 3.00 ERA in six September appearances, issuing 11 walks and striking out 32 batters in 36 combined innings.

The right-hander went 8-5 with a 3.55 ERA in 15 home outings during the regular season, with opposing hitters batting .293 against him.

In 12 lifetime appearances versus the Athletics, Fister has compiled a 5-5 record and 3.17 ERA, but was on the losing end against Straily two months ago.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Tigers with their MLB Picks, as they’ve gone 55-24 in their last 79 home games with a betting total between 7 and 8.5.

MLB Pick:  Detroit Tigers -146
