The Boston Red Sox moved to 4-2 in their last six games with Friday’s 7-3 victory over the Houston Astros, while lifting the OVER to 5-0-1.

Saturday night’s match-up between these foes has Red Sox lefty Felix Doubront, (2-0 4.32 ERA) slated to oppose Astros right-hander Brad Peacock (1-2 7.50 ERA).

Will Boston be worth backing again here, or does  betting the ‘total’ have more value?

Doubront downs A’s

Doubront logged a second straight win for Boston, cashing as a 130 home favorite in Monday’s 9-6 victory over the Oakland Athletics. The Venezuela native allowed three earned runs over 6 2/3 innings, while notching eight strikeouts.

Boston’s middle relief saw righty Clayton Mortensen give up three more runs, while closer Andrew Bailey tossed a scoreless final frame for his fourth save. Red Sox infielders Mike Napoli and Will Middlebrooks united for eight RBI’s, cracking one homer each.

The battle’s combined 15 runs soared above the ‘total’ of eight, collecting for OVER backers by the fifth inning. Boston edged out Oakland in hits, 9-5, while the Athletics came away with two errors.

Peacock lit up at home

Peacock was shelled on the same night of action, with Houston logging a 7-1 loss as a 150 home dog to the Seattle Mariners. The 25-year-old gave up all of Seattle’s runs in 4 1/3 frames, including three homers.

Houston’s sole run came from outfielder Rick Ankiel, poking a solo shot in the seventh inning. Astros catcher Jason Castro drilled two doubles, while cleanup man Chris Carter struck out three times in a 1-for-4 night.

The lopsided affair’s eight runs leaped above the closing ‘total’ of 7 ½, moving the OVER to 3-1 in Peacock’s four starts. Castro and Peacock logged one error each, while relievers Jose Cisnero and Jose Veras held Seattle to three hits in the team’s final 4 2/3 IP.

Back the OVER in Boston opened Doubront as 260 home ‘chalk,’ with early wagers on Boston lifting the premium to minus 270. The ‘total’ was first set at 9 ½, leaning to the UNDER at minus 120.

I am adding the OVER in this duel to Saturday’s sports picks, looking for the Red Sox’ bats to keep surging here.

Houston’s pitching staff has surrendered a sizable team ERA of 5.41, with a 1.59 WHIP. Peacock’s latest defeat moved the hurler’s numbers to a .354 OBP, with the OVER collecting at 5-1-1 in Houston’s last seven games against clubs with winning records.

Boston has hit .272 against right-handed pitching, while the Red Sox lead the American League in stolen bases with 21. The OVER is 9-1-1 in Doubront’s last 11 starts as a home favorite, including a 5-0 mark in the southpaw’s last five starts at Fenway Park against foes with losing records.

Umpire Marvin Hudson is slated to call the balls and strikes, with the OVER collecting at a 7-3 clip in the Georgia native’s last 10 games behind the plate. Look for the OVER to get the money again for this MLB pick here.
