The Boston Red Sox are making their first postseason appearance since 2009, as they open up a best-of-five series with the Tampa Bay Rays Friday. Let's preview the match-up for our MLB Betting.

Let’s take a closer look at the pro baseball betting lines for Game 1 of this American League Division Series at Fenway Park, with the first pitch scheduled for 3:07 p.m. ET on TBS.

Road trippin’

Tampa Bay has been away from home since Sept. 24, as it has advanced to this stage by traveling from New York, Toronto, Texas and Cleveland—picking up a 4-0 win over the Indians in Wednesday night’s AL Wild Card Game.

The Rays are 7-19 in their last 26 games as road underdogs of +110 to +150, with the UNDER going on a 15-5-3 run in that type of situation.

Back in the playoffs

Boston has made it to the postseason in seven of the last 11 years, while it has posted the second-best playoff record (34-24, .596) of any MLB team with at least 20 games since 2003—trailing only the San Francisco Giants (23-17, 657) in that category.

The Red Sox won 12 of 19 meetings against the Rays this season, but they were held to a .208 batting average, which led to scoring just 3.7 runs per game.

Rays starting pitcher Matt Moore (17-4, 3.29 ERA) ended the regular season by winning his last two games, including a 7-6 road victory over the Toronto Blue Jays Sunday, as he allowed three runs and six hits over 5.1 frames.

The left-hander is 10-1 with a 2.74 ERA in 16 road outings, with opposing hitters batting .205 against him.

In five career games (four starts) versus the Red Sox, Moore has compiled an even 2-2 record and 3.86 ERA.

Red Sox starting pitcher Jon Lester (15-8, 3.75 ERA) didn’t earn a decision in a 6-5 road defeat to the Baltimore Orioles in his last effort on Sept. 28, as he surrendered four runs and nine hits over five innings of work.

The left-hander went 7-1 with a 3.09 ERA in 13 home outings during the regular season, with opposing batters hitting .237 against him.

In 26 lifetime appearances versus the Rays, Lester has tallied a 12-9 record and 4.30 ERA, including a 2-1 mark and 4.32 ERA in four outings in 2013.

I’m going to recommend that readers play the total for their MLB Picks, as the UNDER is 6-1 in Lester’s last seven home starts against the Rays.
