The Giants and Yankees conclude their rare interleague series this afternoon in the Bronx, each hoping to claim the rubber match. Get your free MLB pick with analysis here.

San Francisco Giants (58-39) – Jeff Samardzija (9-5, 4.05 ERA)
It took 12 innings, but the Giants finally picked up their first win since returning from the break yesterday, beating the Yankees 2-1 behind All-Star game starter Johnny Cueto.

Jeff Samardzija commands the hill in the last of a three-game stand this afternoon, where he hopes to improve on his road form. In his last six starts away from AT&T Park, the hard-throwing right-hander has only clocked in one quality start, a 5-1 complete-game victory over the Rays in Tampa in which he scattered just four hits. Otherwise, he and the bullpen have combined to yield five runs or more in each.

Samardzija is 0-1 with a 6.92 ERA and 1.62 WHIP in three lifetime appearances (two starts) versus the Bronx Bombers. Both starts occurred in the last two seasons, and the last effort in August 2015 was ugly. Playing for the White Sox, New York tagged Samardzija for nine earned runs on eight hits in 4.2 frames.

The current Yankees roster owns a .273 batting average against (21-for-77) the predominantly cutter-tossing righty. Jacoby Ellsbury, Mark Teixeira, and Carlos Beltran have each belted a homer with third baseman Chase Headley tallying the most hits, going 5-for-13 with two doubles.

Opening at +105 MLB Odds, books are adjusting the price away from the Giants, down to +125 across most shops as of publication. It is just the third time Samardzija will go off a dog in a San Francisco uniform. The Giants split the first two, with the UNDER hitting in each.

New York Yankees (49-48) - Nathan Eovaldi (8-6, 4.93 ERA)
Former National Leaguer Nathan Eovaldi is set to square off against Samardzija, and his numbers against the visitors are not pretty. The flamethrower is 1-4 with a whopping 13.30 ERA and 2.28 WHIP in five career starts against the Giants in his career. The majority of these outings came while donning a Miami Marlins uniform, and he last made an appearance in 2014.

The current San Francisco roster owns a .292 batting average against (21-for-72) with Brandon Crawford (3-for-12) belting the only long ball. Buster Posey and Angel Pagan are a combined 6-for-13 with two doubles and six RBI.

The Yankees clubhouse must really like Eovaldi. In his career, the roster supports him with 5.8 runs per game, including 5.5 this season. Overall, the Pinstripers are 27-17 (9-8 in 2016) when he is on the bump and 14-7 (6-2) in the Bronx.

The UNDER is 10-0 in the last 10 at Yankee Stadium. Girardi’s staff is the difference-maker during this run, allowing only 2.2 runs on 6.6 hits per game.

Final Analysis
Both bullpens are a bit stretched after yesterday’s extra-innings affair, so we will keep our MLB pick confined to the first five innings. Sporting a 5.54 ERA on July 1, management sent Eovaldi to the bullpen right before the break. A few relief appearances later, he returned to the rotation last week and dominated the Orioles in a 7-1 win, allowing four hits and one earned run in 5.1 innings. We like him to put in a quality effort today early on, and will pop on the Yankees in the first half.
