Can Pittsburgh win their eighth game in a row tonight? Will San Diego starter James Shields be able to cool down the red-hot bats of the Pirates? He has those answers and a free MLB pick.
Pirates and Padres at Petco Park
The Padres will host the Pirates on Friday at 10:10 PM ET. According to the MLB betting odds at GTBets, San Diego is a -109 money line favorite, and the posted total is 6.5. Tonight will be the second of a four game series between these National League clubs, and Pittsburgh won 11-5 on Thursday.
The Pirates veteran southpaw Francisco Liriano will make his tenth start of the season on Friday. Liriano has posted a respectable 3.86 ERA in 2015. When he’s encountered difficulty this season it’s been at home. In four road starts, Liriano has compiled an excellent 1.91 ERA. The Pittsburgh hurler has made three starts versus San Diego since 2013, posting a stellar 1.89 ERA and an outstanding 0.89 WHIP in those outings.
The Padres will turn to right-handed starter James Shields tonight. This will be his first career start versus Pittsburgh. Shields has gone 7-3 in his ten team starts this season, and has just shy of a 5:1 strikeout to walk ratio in those outings.
By virtue of last night’s win, the Pirates have now won seven games in a row. During that stretch they’re averaging 6.6 runs per game, and are hitting a robust .319 as a team. The Pittsburgh bullpen continues to perform well this season, evidenced by a collective 2.73 ERA, and that includes 2.40 in away games.
The Padres disappointing start to the season has been magnified during the past couple of weeks. During that time they’ve gone 4-9. San Diego’s bullpen staff is off to a shaky beginning to the 2015 MLB campaign, posting a lofty ERA of 4.24, and an even worse 4.71 at home.
MLB Money Line Betting Angle
The Pirates enter tonight hitting .253 as a team on the season. Pittsburgh’s starting pitcher Francisco Liriano has compiled a very good 1.14 WHIP in 2015. The Padres James Shields has a 3.75 ERA in ten starts. The combination of these three statistical factors qualifies for an impressive money line betting system which has passed the test of time, and I’ll use that angle when making my MLB picks on Friday.
Any National League road team (Pirates) that’s +125 to -125 on the money line, hitting .255 or less as a team, and has a starting pitcher with a WHIP of 1.15 or less, versus a National League opponent (Padres) with a starting pitcher that has an ERA of 3.70 to 4.20, resulted in the road team going 59-31 (65.6%) since 1997.
MLB Pick: Play Pittsburgh -101 on the money line over San Diego at GTBets.
