The best of the AL Central meets the worst of the AL East, and we have a free MLB pick on the series opener between the Blue Jays and Twins.

Willie’s MLB season picks record: 11-14 (-3.35 units)

Toronto (5-11 SU, 6-10 O/U) at Minnesota (8-4 SU, 7-5 O/U)

Monday, 7:40 p.m. ET

Free MLB Pick: Twins ML

Recommended Sportsbook: BetOnline

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3729006, "sportsbooksIds":[1096,238,139,999991,999996], "LineTypeId":1, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Even with a program, it will be difficult to tell the players apart on Monday. That’s because each one will wear 42 to honor Jackie Robinson, and the 10-game slate includes a clash in Minnesota between the AL Central-leading Twins and AL East cellar-dwelling Toronto Blue Jays.

Despite the contrasting difference between the teams in the standings, the lines are fairly tight for the matchup due in large part to Toronto sending its de facto ace to the Target Field mound. BetOnline has the Twins at -137 behind lefty Martin Perez (1-0, 7.56), who is making his 2019 debut; the takeback on the Blue Jays is +127 with Matt Shoemaker (3-0, 0.92) on the hill. Scoreboard bettors will pay a little extra on the high side of an 8½-run total.

Shoemaker Owns 60% Of Toronto’s 5 Wins

Toronto’s first road trip of the season was a disaster with just one win in six tries. The Blue Jays will travel to Oakland after this, and could call up top farmhand Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at any time now to help an offense that ranks near the bottom of the AL averaging about 3½ runs per game. Minnesota took two from Detroit in a weather-shortened weekend series, and ranks second in the Junior Circuit scoring about two more runs per game than Toronto.

After two scoreless starts to begin the campaign, Shoemaker ran into a little trouble last Tuesday in Boston where the Red Sox reached him for a pair of homers and scored four times (2 earned). He still managed to get the dubya as a +225 underdog, and is 2-1 in four career assignments vs,. the Twins with a 4.05 ERA. Perez has been working in log relief up to this point, and has whiffed an impressive dozen in 8.1 innings. The Venezuelan has also walked eight, however, to lead to his bloated ERA. He faced the Blue Jays once a year ago when he was toiling for the Rangers, and Perez took the loss in Toronto where he was charged with four runs and served up three long balls.

Twins Seeking 5th-Straight Win Over Jays

This is the first of two scheduled series between the clubs, the Twins making the return trip to Toronto in about three weeks. Minnesota took four of the six matchups last season, winning the final four after the Blue Jays won the first two at Rogers Centre. In sweeping three from Toronto at Target Field in July, the Twins cashed as small chalk in each contest with two of the three going ‘over’ the totals.

On a cool and cloudy evening in Minneapolis, my free MLB pick will be on the home side.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

#TwinsWin – 6-4! #MNTwins ;/a>
— Minnesota Twins (@Twins) April 14, 2019
\n\n"}[/]

Check out our MLB - Monday thread here
