Kevin Correia of the Twins pitched well in his American League debut and he is facing a Royals lineup hitting .214 vs. righties. Ervin Santana also pitched well besides allowing three homers.

There could be some hidden value on the ‘under’ Monday afternoon when Kevin Correia and the Minnesota Twins (4-2, 2-1 away) pay a visit to Ervin Santana and the Kansas City Royals (3-3, 0-0 home) at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, MO at 4:10 ET.

The posted total at Pinnacle Sports is 8½ for this contest with the current odds on the ‘under’ set at -102.

This is the home opener for the Kansas City Royals, who feasted on the Philadelphia Phillies this past weekend while taking two out of three on the road, with wins by scores of 13-4 and 9-8 sandwiched around a 4-3 loss where the Royals blew a 3-1 lead in the ninth inning. However, most of Kansas City’s damage has come off of left-handed pitching as the Royals are batting .304 vs. southpaws but only .214 vs. right-handed hurlers.

The Twins also had a successful weekend while taking the last two games vs. the Baltimore Orioles on the road after dropping the series opener, and they are sending right-handed veteran Kevin Correia to the mound today after he pitched well in his American League debut.

Correia has spent his entire 10-year Major League career in the National League until now with the San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres and Pittsburgh Pirates, and he managed to post double-digit win totals the last four years while pitching for some weak hitting teams. He now comes over to another fairly weak hitting team in Minnesota and he was asked to face the potent Detroit Tigers lineup in his American League debut.

Correia was up to the task though, limiting the Tigers to two runs on seven hits in seven innings. He had only two strikeouts, which is not atypical for Correia as he was never a strikeout pitcher, but he walked only one and kept the ball off of the fat part of the bat. He now hopes to do the same today and keep the Royals struggling vs. right-handed pitching.

Kansas City counters with Ervin Santana, who is also in his first year with a brand new team after previously spending his entire eight-year Major League career with the Los Angeles Angels.

Now Santana’s line score in his Kansas City debut may not look that great as he was charged with four runs in six innings vs. the Chicago White Sox. However, while he was touched up for three home runs in that contest, he only allowed two other hits besides that and he had an impressive eight strikeouts against just one walk in his six innings.

Also, although Santana was generally disappointing in his final year with the Angels last season he did pitch well in his only start vs. Minnesota allowing just two runs on six hits in 7.1 innings.

Look for both pitchers to follow up their promising debuts with their new clubs well enough for this game to sneak ‘under’ the total Monday.
