The Diamondbacks have gone ‘under’ in eight of their last 10 games while Jorge De La Rosa of the Rockies has been in phenomenal form as of late, so go ‘under’ again in Arizona Thursday.

It could be a nice pitching duel in Arizona on Thursday night when Jorge De La Rosa and the Colorado Rockies (14-7, 5-4 away) pay a visit to Trevor Cahill and the Arizona Diamondbacks (12-9, 5-2 home) in the opening game of a four-game series from Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ at 9:40 ET.

The posted total at Pinnacle Sports is 9 for this contest with the current odds on the ‘under’ set at -113.

These teams have a recent history of playing relatively low scoring games, including going ‘under’ in all three games of a series in the altitude of Colorado last weekend to run the ‘under’ to 6-1 in the last seven meetings, and we are looking for more of the same tonight.

The Diamondbacks are getting very good pitching thus far this season, as Arizona ranks fifth in the National League in team ERA at 3.43. They are also allowing very few tack-on runs late in the game as the bullpen is ranked third in the National League with a collective 2.58 ERA, and that is a key reason why the ‘under’ is now 13-8, 61.9 percent in all Arizona games this year.

That includes an 8-2 ‘under’ run in the last 10 games following a 3-2 win in 10 innings on the road in San Francisco on Wednesday as a nice +147 underdog. They are now looking for another good pitching performance from Cahill, who is a very unlucky 0-3 considering his 3.60 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 21 strikeouts in 25 innings.

Cahill had his second straight Quality Start on Saturday vs. these Rockies, but he was tagged with the loss despite allowing only three earned runs in seven innings in Colorado. That came on the heels of Cahill tossing 7.1 scoreless innings while allowing six hits vs. the Dodgers in his previous start but settling for a no-decision. Because of that lack of run support, the ‘under’ is 4-0 in all the games that Cahill has started this year.

Speaking of scoreless innings streaks, Colorado starter De La Rosa is now at 23 straight innings since allowing three runs in the first inning vs. the San Francisco Giants three starts ago, and he has been downright stellar in his last two outings while allowing just two hits in six scoreless innings in each of those occasions with a total of 11 strikeouts in those 12 innings and the most recent start coming vs. the Diamondbacks Saturday.

Then again it only makes sense that Arizona would struggle vs. tough southpaws like De La Rosa, given that the Diamondbacks are batting a dismal .194 vs. left-handed pitchers this early season while averaging only 3.27 runs per nine innings against them.

With all of this in mind, look for the ‘under’ to improve to 7-1 in the last eight head-to-head meetings between these teams on Thursday.
