We browse the early odds board in search of MLB betting value on Wednesday's card. Read on for two selections to maximize your profits before the NBA Finals start.

Cubs vs. Padres

Jake Arrieta will take the hill for the Cubs after having a relatively stroug outing in his last start, giving up four earned runs on five hits (two home runs) and one walk with nine strikeouts over six innings of a 4-0 setback against the Dodgers last Friday. Arrieta has now lost three of his last four starts, allowing four or more earned runs in those setbacks and he's just 3-4 with a 5.77 ERA in seven road starts but he threw eight scoreless innings in one start against the Padres last season and this is the right opponent for him to bounce back.

The Padres will go with Luis Perdomo (0-2, 5.61 ERA, 1.48 WHIP), who allowed three earned runs on six hits (two home runs) and two walks with six strikeouts over six innings of a 5-1 loss against the Nationals last Friday. Perdomo is 0-1 with an abysmal 7.11 ERA in five home starts and he gave up two earned runs in just three innings of work against the Cubs last season. The Cubs are a mess right now but facing Perdomo in San Diego should help their offense come alive while Arrieta slows the Padres down enough to get the win. I'm taking the Cubs at -173 MLB odds.

Yankees vs. Orioles

Right-hander Masahiro Tanaka will make his 11th start of the season. He gave up one earned run on five hits while striking out 13 over 7 1/3 innings to take a 4-1 loss against the Athletics last Friday. Tanaka had failed to post a quality start in any of his last four outings and his 5.86 ERA makes him difficult to trust but he does have a decent 3.47 strikeout-to-walk ratio (K/BB).

Kevin Gausman will start for the Orioles and like Tanaka, he took the loss despite pitching well in his last start, allowing two earned runs on eight hits (two home runs) with two strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings in a 2-0 defeat against the Astros last Friday. The right-hander now has quality starts in three of his last four outings, posting a 4.30 ERA in 23 innings over that stretch but the long ball continues to be an issue for him (10 home runs surrendered in 11 starts) and it can doom him against the Yankees.

Gausman has a 7.59 ERA in two starts against the Yankees this season, giving up two home runs in just 10 2/3 innings and I don't see those trends changing here, which is why I like the Yankees for my MLB picks.
