We browse the early MLB odds board in search of betting value on Thursday's card. Read on for two picks to maximize your profits before the weekend starts.

Giants vs. Cubs

Former Cub Jeff Samardzija will take the hill for the Giants after pitching one of his best games of the season. Samardzija threw eight scoreless innings, allowing just five hits with eight strikeouts during Saturday's 3-1 extra-innings win over the Cardinals, although he didn't factor into the decision. The right-hander has 41 strikeouts over 36 2/3 innings through his past five starts, giving up just 11 earned runs and a single walk but he's just 0-3 with a 5.08 ERA in five road starts and he allowed three earned runs in just four innings against the Cubs last season.

The Cubs will go with Eddie Butler (1-0, 2.00 ERA, 1.44 WHIP in two starts), who lasted just three innings in his last start, allowing two earned runs on three hits with five walks and three strikeouts to get a no-decision in a 6-3 loss against the Brewers last Friday. I'm taking the Cubs at -106 MLB odds. Butler struggled against the Brewers but Chicago will score enough runs to win against their former teammate Samardzija.

Mariners vs. Nationals

Left-hander Ariel Miranda, who will make his 10th start of the season, allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks with nine strikeouts over seven innings to get a no-decision in Friday's 2-1 loss against the White Sox. Miranda (3-2, 4.28 ERA, 1.26 WHIP) has given up two earned runs or less in four of his last five starts and just one earned on each of this last two appearances.

Gio Gonzalez will start for the Nationals, he's winless in his last four starts despite giving up four earned runs or less in three of those appearances. Gonzalez (3-1, 2.86 ERA, 1.38 WHIP) gave up four earned runs on nine hits and three walks with five strikeouts in a 7-4 loss to the Braves on Friday to earn a no-decision. Gonzalez has been dominant at home, going 1-0 with a 1.41 ERA in five starts.

This game has 'Under' written all over it, especially with such a high total. Sure, both teams have talented bats in their lineups but Miranda has been impressive as of late and Gonzalez is hard to hit at home, so I will add 'Under' 9.5 to my MLB picks
