Blue Jays At Brewers (-107)

Toronto will lose the designated hitter for this interleague matchup at Miller Park with a first pitch of 7:40 p.m. ET. The Jays’ usual DH is Kendrys Morales, but the team could opt to put him at first base and bench Justin Smoak. The last thing the Jays need is to lose another big bat with third baseman Josh Donaldson and shortstop Troy Tulowitzki both on the DL. Both could be activated soon, but not likely in time for this game. The team just got back catcher Russell Martin from the DL a couple of games ago.

The Jays had a little surge there for a while but have dropped five of seven to slide seven games under .500 again. Perhaps Monday’s day off was the right tonic. They start former reliever Joe Biagini (1-2, 3.41) in this one. He had been pretty solid since moving from the bullpen but wasn’t last time out in allowing six runs and four hits over four innings in a loss in Atlanta. The Braves scored all six of those runs before Biagini recorded an out in the first inning. It marked only the second time the Braves scored six or more runs before an out was recorded in the opening frame of a game since the team began playing in Atlanta in 1966. Biagini remains on a pitch count, likely around 85.

Milwaukee’s Jimmy Nelson (2-2, 3.86) is working on back-to-back quality starts. He held the Padres to two runs and seven hits over six innings last time out in a win – the Brewers had lost the previous five times that Nelson took the mound. In May, Nelson has a 1.15 ERA and a .193 average against in 15 2/3 innings.

The Brewers won both games in Toronto back in mid-April. I can’t believe they aren’t bigger favorites here as they are 7-1 in their past eight on MLB picks vs. teams with a losing record. Jump all over Milwaukee.

White Sox At Diamondbacks (10 Total)

This interleague matchup is tied for the highest total on the board for Tuesday. The White Sox will lose the designated hitter, which is usually Matt Davidson. Thus he might not get a chance to play against his former club. He was the 35th overall pick in the 2009 draft by the Diamondbacks and traded to the White Sox for reliever Addison Reed in December 2013.

Chicago isn’t a great offensive team but exploded for 26 runs in its final three games in Seattle over the weekend in winning each. That followed a four-game losing streak. White Sox right fielder Avisail Garcia became the third player in franchise history to produce four extra-base hits and six RBIs in a game when he had two homers and two doubles Saturday. As of Monday, he’s tied for the AL batting lead at .350 with the Angels’ Mike Trout.

The White Sox probably would like to stop starting Dylan Covey considering he’s 0-3 with a 7.64 ERA in seven starts and has been one of the AL’s worst pitchers. But the Pale Hose have some injuries in the rotation and not much choice. Covey has given up at least four earned in five of his seven starts. Opponents are batting a robust .322 against him. He has never faced Arizona.

The Snakes counter with lefty Patrick Corbin (3-4, 4.38). He has been tagged for 16 runs and 24 hits over 16 innings in his past three outings. Thus you can see why the high total. Corbin has been much better at home with a 3-1 record and 3.06 ERA. Only a few White Sox have ever faced him. Todd Frazier is 3-for-10 with a double. Melky Cabrera has a homer in three at-bats.

The ‘over’ is 7-3 in Corbin’s past 10 at home, and with Covey also on the mound that's the pick.
