Clayton Kershaw will take the hill for the Dodgers in their series opener with the Giants. Kershaw is 6-2 with a 2.43 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP after giving up just two earned runs over seven innings in Friday's 6-2 win over the Rockies. The left-hander is 3-1 with a 2.63 ERA in four road starts and 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA in two starts against the Giants this season, including seven innings of one run ball with seven strikeouts and one walk at AT&T Park.

Johnny Cueto will start for the Giants. He held the Reds to two runs on five hits over eight innings last Friday, walking three and striking out six but did not factor into the decision in a 17-inning 3-2 win. Cueto has thrown four consecutive quality starts while posting a 2.86 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP in May and he is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in three home starts and 1-0 with a 4.15 ERA in two starts against the Dodgers.

The Giants are playing much better lately but they usually struggle against Kershaw, who already beat them in San Francisco this season. Los Angeles is averaging 6.3 runs per game in Kershaw's last three starts while the Giants average just 2.3 runs per game in Cueto's last three starts. The Dodgers have the edge on the mound and a better offense so I will add them to my MLB picks.

Red Sox vs. Cardinals

Rick Porcello will make his ninth start of the season for the Red Sox. Porcello gave up five runs (three earned) on nine hits over six innings in a 5-4 loss to the Rays on Friday to fall to 2-4 with a 4.01 ERA this season, although he has an impressive 5.78 strikeout-to-walk ratio (K/BB) and five straight quality starts. The reigning American League Cy Young is 1-1 with a 1.80 ERA in three road starts but he's 0-5 with a 4.50 ERA and seven home runs allowed in five night games.

The Cardinals will go with Mike Leake, who took the loss against the Cubs on Friday despite giving up just two earned runs over six innings. Leake leads the National League with a 1.94 ERA and he's third with an 0.99 WHIP. The right-hander has allowed three earned runs or less in all his seven starts and he is 1-2 with a 1.71 ERA in four home starts this season.

Porcello has been better than what his record suggests, he has at least six strikeouts in each of his last four appearances but his run support has been lacking all season and Leake has allowed two runs or fewer in six of his starts. I'm looking at Under 8 at +100 MLB odds here. The total has gone 'Under' in five of the last five games between these two teams and in their last five games in St. Louis.
