We browse the early MLB odds board in search of betting value on Sunday's card. Read on for two picks to maximize your profits.

Cubs vs. Cardinals

Jake Arrieta will take the hill for the Cubs in their series finale with the Cardinals. Arrieta is 4-2 with a 5.35 ERA and 1.47 WHIP after allowing nine runs (five earned) on nine hits and three walks over just 3 2/3 innings in Tuesday's 10-4 loss to the Rockies. He threw two scoreless innings but fell apart in the third and now he has given up fewer than three runs just once through seven starts.

The right-hander beat the Cardinals at Busch Stadium on April 4, holding them to one unearned run and striking out six in six innings.

Adam Wainwright will start for the Cardinals. He allowed four runs on four hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings to get a no-decision against the Marlins on Tuesday and he is now just 2-3 with an awful 6.37 ERA and a 1.87 WHIP.

Wainwright is 1-1 with a 5.51 ERA in two home starts and his loss came against the Cubs, when he allowed two earned runs in five innings on April 4.

It's still early in the season but Arrieta and Wainwright don't look like the pitchers they have been in year's past, which is why the total is at 8.5. However, I'm looking at 'Under' 8.5 for my MLB picks, taking a contrarian approach.

Reds vs. Giants

Tim Adleman will make his sixth appearance of the season (fifth start) for the Reds. Adleman is 2-1 with a 4.44 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP and he has won his last two starts, including last Tuesday's game against the Yankees, when he allowed three earned runs (two home runs) and struck out six over five innings.

The right-hander is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in two day starts but he gave up six runs (five earned) over 5 1/3 innings in his only road start this season.

Jeff Samardzija, who gets the ball for the Giants, is winless in seven starts, posting an 0-5 record with a 5.44 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP and he has give up seven home runs already.

Samardzija allowed six earned runs on 10 hits while striking out nine without a walk in seven innings to take the loss against the Mets last Tuesday and he's 0-2 with a 3.92 ERA in three home starts this season.

I'm looking at Over 8.5 at +105 MLB odds. Both teams are struggling offensively as of late but their bats should wake up against two inconsistent pitchers like Adleman and Samardzija.
