Blake Snell will take the hill for the Rays in the second game of their series with the Red Sox. Snell is 0-3 with a 3.96 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP and he took the loss in his last start after allowing four earned runs on 10 hits and a walk, with just two strikeouts over five innings against the Royals last Monday. The left-hander is 0-1 with a 1.84 ERA in three road starts and he lost his only start against the Red Sox this season after giving up four runs (one earned) in just five innings.

Chris Sale will start for the Red Sox. He struggled a bit in his last appearance, giving up four earned runs over six innings against the Twins on Sunday, but he was able to record 10 strikeouts and just three walks and the Boston offense scored 17 runs to help him get the win. Sale is now 3-2 with a decent 1.92 ERA, an impressive 0.79 WHIP and a fantastic 6.64 strikeout-to-walk ratio (K/BB).

The left-hander already beat the Rays at Fenway Park this season, when he held them to one earned run over seven innings on April 15 and he should dominate them again, while his offense produces against the struggling Snell. I will add the Red Sox -210 to my MLB picks.

Athletics vs. Rangers

Sonny Gray will make his third start of the season for the Athletics. He is 0-1 with a 4.22 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP after allowing four runs (one earned) and seven hits over 4 2/3 innings to get a no-decision in an 8-6 win over the Tigers last Sunday. Gray was 1-0 with a 6.00 ERA in two starts against the Rangers last season and his velocity has been fine this year, but he needs to induce more strikeouts (5.1 K/9). Still, I like his chances to get his first win of the season on Saturday.

Nick Martinez, who gets the ball for the Rangers, is also winless and he has a poor 5.18 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP while giving up seven home runs in just four starts. Martinez took the loss after giving up four earned runs on eight hits (two home runs) in six innings against the Padres last Sunday and the A's offense, led by Yonder Alonso and Khris Davis can get to him. I'm taking the Athletics at +100 MLB odds, giving Gray his first win of the season.
