We browse the early MLB odds board in search of betting value on Tuesday’s slate. Read on for two selections on two games that will maximize your profits.

Angels At Tigers (10 Total)

This series opener from Comerica Park has the highest total of any game not played in the thin air at Denver’s Coors Field on Tuesday. And I get why that is with two mediocre pitchers, but I don’t really think much of the Angels’ offense with Mike Trout sidelined.

The Halos split a four-game home series with the Tigers from May 11-14. Los Angeles was held to four runs or fewer in three of the games and it had Trout then – he had three homers in the series. The Tigers haven’t won a series in Anaheim in eight tries since 2009.

This will be Albert Pujols’ first game since joining the 600-HR club on Saturday night. He became the first guy to reach No. 600 with a grand slam. Pujols is the fourth youngest to accomplish the feat and only Pujols, Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds have collected 600 home runs and 600 doubles in their careers. Manager Mike Scioscia gave Pujols Sunday off. He’s now 124 hits away from 3,000. On the homer list, Sammy Sosa at 609 and Jim Thome at 612 are both reachable this season.

It’s Jesse Chavez (4-6, 4.68) on the mound for the Angels. He missed the Tigers in that earlier series. Chaves comes off one of his best starts of the year, allowing one run and five hits and tying a season high of seven innings vs. the Braves – alas, he took a no-decision.  Chavez has an active streak of 11.2 innings pitched without allowing an earned run to the Tigers but hasn’t seen them since May 2015 while with Oakland. Miguel Cabrera is 3-for-11 off him with a homer and six RBIs.

It’s lefty Daniel Norris (2-3, 4.47) for the Tigers. He comes off a no-decision in Kansas City, allowing three runs over five innings. He also took a ND on May 13 vs. the Angels in giving up two runs over 5.2 innings. Norris had a 1.53 K/BB ratio his first five starts, but has upped that to 2.78 K/BB in his five starts since. Pujols is 1-for-3 off Norris.

The ‘under’ is 7-1 in the past eight meetings between these two and that’s my lean here because the total is so high.

 Nationals At Dodgers (+107)

It’s Game 2 of this terrific three-game series. The Dodgers get a look at Nationals ace Max Scherzer (6-3, 2.56), who leads the National League in strikeouts (100) and WHIP (0.89). for the first time since he faced them in last year’s NLDS. Washington didn’t win either game Scherzer started. In Game 1, he took a no-decision vs. Clayton Kershaw, giving up four runs over six innings. In Game 5, Scherzer allowed one run and five hits over six innings, but the bullpen imploded and the Dodgers won the series with a 4-3 victory.

This season, Scherzer has allowed only two runs and struck out 24 over his past 17.2 innings, both wins.  Scherzer likely would have had a complete-game shutout last time out vs. the Giants, but center fielder Michael Taylor and left fielder Jayson Werth lost a two-out pop fly in the lights and it dropped in to score the Giants’ only run. It was Scherzer’s first complete game since May 11, 2016, when he matched an MLB record with 20 strikeouts against the Tigers. The 100 pitches were the fewest he's thrown in a nine-inning complete game in his career.

The Dodgers go with Brandon McCarthy (5-2, 3.38). He was pulled after four innings Friday in St. Louis, allowing two runs and seven hits, due to a blister. McCarthy felt fine during his Sunday bullpen session and thus will start Tuesday. McCarthy already spent time on the disabled list this season after dislocating his left shoulder in a weight-room accident. He also is dealing with tendinitis in his knee.

Not many Nationals have had much success off McCarthy. Jayson Werth is 2-for-6 with a homer but Werth is expected to miss a few games after fouling a ball off his toe. X-rays were negative but expect Brian Goodwin to start in left field here.

You will rarely get Scherzer at a price below -120 so jump on it while you can.
