Cardinals At Reds (+120)

First pitch of the night at 7:10 p.m. ET from Great American Ball Park. The Reds led the NL Central not all that long ago but are now starting to play to expectations, which is to say lousy. They have dropped five of six and could be missing two-thirds of their starting outfield again Monday.

Can you tell me the two guys leading the National League in homers without looking? I bet you can’t unless you are a fan of the Reds and Marlins. They would be Cincinnati’s Scott Schebler and Miami’s Justin Bour with 16 each. Schebler and teammate Billy Hamilton both injured their left shoulders suffered via attempts at diving catches Saturday – not on the same play. Hamilton had two unsuccessful ones and Schebler at least caught his. Neither played Sunday, but the team doesn’t think either will land on the disabled list. Hamilton leads the majors with 28 stolen bases. The Reds would be again down to just two position players on the bench if both sit again.

The Reds start Asher Wojciechowski here. The 28-year-old has made just eight big-league appearances. He pitched in 2015 for Houston and was 0-1 with a 7.16 ERA in 16.1 innings. He has thrown eight innings this season for the Reds. His first start was last Tuesday in Toronto and he gave up four runs, three homers over four innings in a no-decision. Wojciechowski was very good in Triple-A this year with a 1.40 ERA. This will be his first career outing vs. the Cardinals.

St. Louis goes with ace right-hander Carlos Martinez (4-4, 3.08). He has thrown seven straight quality starts. Last time out he dominated the Dodgers, allowing one run and four hits over eight innings with nine strikeouts. Martinez lost to the Reds on April 9 in St. Louis, allowing six runs and six hits over five innings. He hit two batters, walked one and threw a wild pitch. Scooter Gennett is 7-for-23 career against him with three doubles and a homer. Zack Cosart is 6-for-19 with a homer. Joey Votto is 2-for-14 with seven walks.

 Nationals At Dodgers (-125)

A 10 p.m. ET first pitch from Los Angeles and on ESPN. This is one of the best series of the season and could be a playoff preview; they met in last year's NLDS with L.A. winning in five. Our own Willie Bee will have a full preview of this game. We shall have to see if we agree or not.

Washington is running away with the NL East title – it might clinch that division by late August. The Nats got back star and NL MVP betting favorite Bryce Harper returned from his three-game suspension on Sunday in Oakland. However, fellow outfielder Jayson Werth sat out with a sore left foot after fouling a ball off it Saturday. He’s day-to-day.

The Dodgers, meanwhile, are favored to win another NL West crown, although they have unexpected strong competition from Colorado and Arizona. L.A. closed a seven-game road trip through the Midwest at 4-3 following a 3-0 loss in Milwaukee on Sunday. The Dodgers looked a bit spent with only three hits.

Lefty Gio Gonzalez (4-1, 3.03) is on the mound for Washington, which means trouble for L.A. because it generally hits much worse (.247) against southpaws. This will be Gonzalez’s first appearance at Dodger Stadium since Game 3 of last year’s NLDS, when he gave up three runs in 4 1/3 innings in a loss. No current Dodgers have hit a regular-season homer off him.

L.A.’s Hyun-Jin Ryu (2-5, 3.91) has taken no-decisions in his past two outings. He allowed one run over six innings last time out in St. Louis. Ryu has been in the majors since 2013 but has yet to face Washington. Daniel Murphy has seen him, going 3-for-9. Matt Wieters is 1-for-2.
