Giants At Braves (+126, 9)

It’s the final series between these teams in 2017. The Giants took two of three at home vs. the Braves in late May. San Francisco hit just .211 as a team against Atlanta pitching. Backup catcher Nick Hundley had a homer and three RBIs. Brandon Belt had a solo homer, his only hit in nine at-bats. Buster Posey was 0-for-5 in the series. Atlanta hit .224 as a team but didn’t homer. Matt Kemp was 5-for-12 with two doubles. Matt Adams was 0-for-11 with three strikeouts.

San Francisco enters on a six-game losing streak, losing a two-game home set vs. Kansas City and then dropping four over the weekend at the Rockies. Atlanta has won back-to-back series in Washington and home to Miami. Brandon Phillips had walkoff RBI singles on both Saturday and Sunday against the Marlins.

It's Johnny Cueto (5-6, 4.57) on the mound for the Giants as he makes his first-ever start at the Braves’ new Sun Trust Park. He wasn’t good last time out, allowing five runs and 10 hits over 5.2 innings against a bad Royals offense. Cueto gave up three more dingers and has surrendered eight home runs in his last five games, compared with eight in his first nine starts. His 1.7 HR/9 innings is the highest of his career and more than double last year's. Cueto’s last win was May 28 against the Braves, allowing one run over six innings with eight strikeouts. Kemp is a career .353 hitter against him with three solo homers in 34 at-bats.

Braves knuckleballer R.A. Dickey (4-5, 5.35) was blown up in his last start at Washington, giving up a season-high eight runs, including three homers, over five innings. Dickey took the loss opposite Cueto on May 28, allowing seven runs in six innings.

Padres At Cubs (-220, TBA)

Chicago will be looking for a little payback here as the defending world champions were shockingly swept by the terrible Padres in a three-game series at Petco Park at the end of last month. The Cubs totaled just five runs in the series and hit .122 as a team (11-for-90 with 24 strikeouts). Anthony Rizzo, Ben Zobrist, Javier Baez and Ian Happ all were hitless in the series. Kyle Schwarber was 1-for-12 with four strikeouts. It was the Friars’ first sweep of Chicago since August 2012. That concluded a winless six-game trip for the Cubs and was rock bottom this season.

As usual, no early total on a Cubs home game. They completed a six-game road trip at 3-3 following a 7-1 victory in Pittsburgh on Sunday. Rizzo has really taken to hitting leadoff as he was 3-for-5 with a homer, three runs and two RBIs. Rizzo, one of the most unlikely leadoff hitters in recent history, is hitting .353 with two homers and six RBIs since moving there last week. San Diego, meanwhile, started a six-game road trip by dropping two of three over the weekend in Milwaukee.

It’s ace lefty Jon Lester on the bump for the Cubs. Lester (4-4, 3.89) had really struggled on the road this year but was very good last Tuesday at the Mets, allowing one run over seven innings and striking out 10. It was his 150th career victory. Lester didn’t face the Padres in the earlier series. He is 3-1 with 2.65 ERA at home this year.

It’s former Cubs lefty Clayton Richard (5-7, 4.30) for the Friars. He comes off a very good outing vs. Cincinnati, allowing two runs over 8.2 innings. One out from a complete game, Richard was removed after pinch-hitter Tucker Barnhart's two-run double. Richard didn’t face the Cubs last month. Rizzo is 1-for-7 career against him. Only five Cubs have seen him in a regular-season game.
